Job Summary
The Program/Facility Supervisor will deliver and guide others to provide a positive experience for customers at a City of Manhattan indoor or outdoor recreation facility. They will oversee all youth and adult athletic programs make weather/facility-related decisions and lead staff at each program on a nightly/daily basis. Individuals supervised includes participants spectators and staff involved in events that occur in both indoor and outdoor facilities. Sports include but are not limited to: baseball basketball flag football softball t-ball volleyball kickball ultimate futsal soccer and pickleball. Staff may be asked to serve in this lead role as required and/or provide service at a location other than their primary location.
Job Duties
- Provides overall supervision of Manhattan Parks and Recreation facilities seasonal staff and patrons in the absence of full-time staff.
- Opens and/or closes the facility for use prior to the arrival of participants spectators and staff per regular operating or program hours.
- Maintains a professional appearance according to department policies including the proper attire and footwear.
- Ensures a clean organized and safe facility which includes light janitorial/cleaning tasks as needed or as directed by supervisors and/or daily checklists.
- Responsible for facility cash handling and any transactions which occur during the shift including completing daily cash reports in compliance with standard departmental procedures.
- Provides excellent customer service and possesses a service philosophy which reflects the mission for the Parks and Recreation Department to include: greeting customers as they enter the facility and ensuring they are properly registered prior to use; answering the phone in a cheerful polite manner and directing phone calls to the proper people; and notifying instructing and correcting customer behavior that is inconsistent with safety procedures in a fair timely and polite manner.
- Maintains proficiency in computer data entry skills including use of CivicRec and/or other software solutions.
- Takes lead in any situation requiring emergency services
- Manages staff at each program for the entirety of their shift
- Makes day-of adjustments to staff schedule to best fit program needs
- Makes weather and facility-related decisions for the program they are supervising
- Communicates with Athletics and/or Facilities Coordinator and Supervisor via a daily/nightly report
- Monitors staff players coaches spectators and all aspects of the game and facility.
- Ensures rules policies and procedures are being observed and followed.
- Follows procedures for closing and securing the designated facility at the end of each shift.
- Assists with seasonal staff facility training.
- Assists with set-up/tear down of events or activities (chairs tables bleachers and other equipment).
- Carries out all procedures exactly as described by the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) in times of emergency or crisis. EAP training will be provided by MPRD.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative professional working relationships with others both individually and in a team environment.
- May work in an after-school program setting for middle schoolers that includes monitoring participants enforcing rules and participating in activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Knowledge Skills and Additional Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be able to complete American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid training (provided by MPRD).
- Valid drivers license (Fall Winter & Spring).
Preferred Education and Experience
- Knowledge and experience of recreation and fitness sports game rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of CivicRec systems.
- Cash handling skills.
- Staff or team lead experience.
Other Information
- Staff will be required to work varied shifts daily including evenings weekends and some holidays.
- Applicants must pass a drug test
- This is not a KPERS covered position.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Work facilities include: Anthony and Eisenhower Recreation Centers Douglass Activity Center Anneberg Park City Park CiCo Park Peace Memorial Auditorium Manhattan High School East Campus.
- Work is performed: Weeknights and some weekends
- Work is performed in a potentially noisy environment.
- Stand walk sit use hands handle feel speak hear climb stairs push pull or lift up to 50 pounds.
- Team lift equipment exceeding 50 pounds.
