Job Summary

About The Role:

The Customs Specialist ensures the companys international trade meets all legal requirements through accurate product classification and the maintenance of clear compliance standards. As the primary subject matter expert this role interprets customs legislation to provide the business with technical guidance that ensures accurate customs declarations and reduces the risk of non-compliance. They will serve as a key collaborator on internal and external audits duty recovery initiatives and other strategic projects. They will ensure the organization remains audit-ready by maintaining the accuracy of trade data and customs filings while advising on the internal processes necessary to sustain long-term compliance.

 

What You Will Do:

  • Administer and maintain a global harmonized system (HS) tariff classification system to ensure our classification is accurate and uses the most favourable duty rates across multiple jurisdictions.

  • Research and interpret customs regulations across primary markets (Canada US and EU) and other international jurisdictions to ensure consistent adherence to global customs requirements.

  • Maintain a comprehensive compliance manual while acting as the subject matter expert to advise internal teams on best practices.

  • Collaborate directly with customs authorities to manage and resolve formal verifications inquiries and other critical customs compliance matters.

  • Perform regular internal audits of customs entries classifications valuation origin and free trade agreement usage to ensure accuracy and take corrective actions when necessary.

  • Manage the execution of duty recovery programs to maximize cost-recovery.

  • Report on departmental metrics and assist management with strategic projects or additional tasks as required to support the trade compliance function.


Qualifications :

  • Bachelors degree or professional designation in International Trade Supply Chain and Logistics or a related field.

  • CSCB Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or Certified Trade Compliance Specialist (CTCS) designation is a requirement for the role.

  • Minimum of 45 years of experience in a trade compliance role with specific experience in the fashion/apparel industry preferred.

  • Advanced expertise in Canadian customs tariff classification and solid knowledge of US and EU customs tariff classification.

  • Proven experience in managing duty drawback programs and preparing for formal customs audits.

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel for data analysis.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and French.
