Position Summary:
The Student Support Paraprofessional provides direct support to high school students (grades 912) needing academic behavioral and social-emotional assistance in a general education setting. This position focuses on supporting students with 504 plans addressing behavior concerns and helping students develop the skills needed for success in a high school environment. The role may also include supporting after-school programs and activities.
Schedule:
- Up to 40 hours/week during the school year on days when students are present
- May need to attend some department building and LEA professional development trainings and meetings
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide support to high school students with 504 plans ensuring accommodations are implemented with fidelity
- Assist in monitoring and supporting student behavior in classrooms hallways and common areas
- Work collaboratively with teachers and administrators to implement behavior intervention strategies appropriate for adolescents
- Build positive professional relationships with students to promote engagement accountability and graduation readiness
- Support students in developing executive functioning skills such as organization time management and self-advocacy
- Help de-escalate situations and support conflict resolution using appropriate strategies for high school-aged students
- Supervise students during transitions lunch and other unstructured times
- Maintain accurate documentation of behavior incidents and interventions
- Collaborate with counselors teachers and administration to support student success plans
- Encourage positive decision-making and reinforce school expectations
- Assist with and supervise after-school programs activities or events as needed
- Support a safe respectful and positive high school culture
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required; associates degree or higher preferred
- Experience working with high school-aged students (grades 912) or youth in a school or similar setting preferred
- Background in education youth development behavior support or a related field is highly desirable
- RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) certification preferred or willingness/ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with adolescents
- Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress or behavior situations
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Commitment to student success equity and maintaining a positive school environment
