REPORTS TO: Principal of Schools

START DATE: Anticipated 1st day of school for the 2026-2027 school year

SUMMARY: We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Portuguese Language Arts teacher to join the Quinn Middle School community. Candidates should be able to contribute to a positive environment for student learning and involvement embracing cultural diversity and multiple perspectives. Should have experience planning implementing and adapting curriculum based on bilingual education pedagogy. Candidates should: hold a strong belief that all students are capable of achieving and is able to provide support and feedback for a wide range of learners and have a collegial spirit that supports the team model through collaboration and professional growth consistent with the educational goals and philosophies of our school community. Candidates should be committed to continuous learning improving reflecting and working with students staff and families to ensure that all students achieve at high levels.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for integrating knowledge of second language acquisition and evidenced based practices for effective Dual Language Program implementation.
  • Plans instruction which lends to the educational growth and development of students.
  • Responsible for using innovative approaches and instructional strategies including the effective use of technologies to increase student learning and confidence to learn.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning celebrates cultural differences and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Responsible for effective management of classroom environment.
  • Responsible for mentoring students understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusting instruction materials or assessments when appropriate.
  • Responsible for effective instruction that meets the individual needs interests and abilities of students which includes making appropriate adjustments and modifications to consistently deliver the curriculum in the partner language making learning goals clear to the students using appropriate instructional and questioning techniques.
  • Responsible for identification referral procedures and accommodations for students requiring Special Education.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Responsible for the promotion of high standards and expectations for student achievement.
  • Collaborates with colleagues students and/or parents on a regular basis.
  • Responsible for the safety well-being and work output of students.
  • Performance of other reasonably job-related tasks.

Qualifications:

  • DESE license - Portuguese 5-12 license Required
  • DESE Endorsement - BEE (Bilingual Education Endorsement) required
  • High level of proficiency in Portuguese (Advanced-High or Superior). Individuals with this level of proficiency in the language have generally completed advanced academic work in that language.
  • Bachelors degree required.
  • Masters Degree preferably in TESOL Applied Linguistics or related field.
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge base of current research about curriculum instruction and assessment of ELLs and the ability to apply this knowledge in daily practice.
  • Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI) and fingerprints
