Onsite Psychiatrist (5 Positions)
Location: Lt. Col. Luke Weathers Jr. VA Medical Center
1030 Jefferson Avenue Memphis TN 38120
Employment Type: Full-Time / Contract
Schedule: Monday Friday with on-call responsibilities
About the Opportunity
This role supports the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in delivering high-quality patient-centered mental health care consistent with nationally recognized standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties (Approx. 95%)
Provide comprehensive psychiatric care to VA beneficiaries in both inpatient and outpatient settings
Perform:
Patient evaluations diagnosis and treatment planning
Admissions treatment management and discharge/transfer
Follow-ups and post-discharge care
Collaborate with VA mental health staff and interdisciplinary teams
Manage clinic operations and patient flow
See:
New patient referrals
Severely mentally ill patients
E-consults and evaluations
Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation
Clinic & Caseload Expectations
6 to 6.5 patient care hours per day
Typical workload:
6 patients/hour sessions OR
12 patients/30-minute sessions (or combination)
Peer Review & Consultation
Participate in:
Peer reviews
Case evaluations
Mental health reviews
Patient complaints and appeals
Administrative Duties (Approx. 5%)
Attend required staff meetings
Coordinate with Contracting Officer Representative (COR)
Comply with VA policies medical staff bylaws and procedures
Work Schedule:
Clinic Hours: Monday Friday 8:00 AM 4:30 PM
Inpatient Psychiatry: Monday Friday 8:00 AM 5:00 PM
On-Call Requirements:
Evenings weekends and holidays
Must be available:
Within 15 minutes by phone
Onsite within 60 minutes if required
Minimum Qualifications:
MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry
Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN)
Licensure
Current full and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory
No history of license suspension revocation or restriction
Certifications
Current:
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (or equivalent)
Skills & Competencies:
Strong clinical and diagnostic skills in psychiatry
Ability to:
Speak read and write English fluently
Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment
Proven competency in psychiatric care and treatment
Additional Requirements
Maintain all continuing education requirements
Provide documentation of:
Licensure
Certifications
Training and competency
Adhere to VA standards of care and documentation requirement
