Marshfield Medical Center is seeking a Neurological Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in Marshfield Wisconsin. The NP or PA is a skilled member of the health team who provides medical and educational services to patients in collaboration with a licensed physician. The Physician Assistant/ Nurse Practitioner works within a cooperative unit utilizing team effort with health care providers co-workers and the public to provide positive patient interaction.

In this role you will support the movement disorder clinic. This role will not have call or outreach.

Summary

The Neurology Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care to patients with neurological conditions in both inpatient and/or outpatient settings. Working collaboratively with neurologists and multidisciplinary teams the NP performs assessments orders and interprets diagnostic tests initiates treatment plans and provides education and support to patients and families.

Job Description

Conduct thorough neurological evaluations and health assessments for patients with acute and chronic neurological conditions including stroke epilepsy headaches multiple sclerosis Parkinsons disease neuropathy and dementia. Order perform and interpret diagnostic tests (e.g. MRI CT EEG EMG) in collaboration with neurologists. Develop and manage treatment plans in accordance with best practices and evidence-based guidelines. Prescribe medications and monitor for efficacy and adverse effects. Provide patient and family education about diagnosis treatment options and lifestyle modifications. Participate in interdisciplinary case discussions and contribute to care planning. Coordinate referrals to specialists rehabilitation or community services as needed. Manage follow-up care monitor disease progression and adjust care plans accordingly. Support patients during transitions of care (e.g. hospital discharge rehabilitation outpatient follow-up). Document all patient care activities accurately and in a timely manner in the electronic medical record. Participate in clinical research or quality improvement initiatives as appropriate.

Qualifications

Masters or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. If APRN was licensed prior to August 1 1995 masters degree in nursing is preferred.

Minimum of 1-2 years of NP experience preferred; neurology or neuroscience experience highly desirable

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice. Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice. State Controlled Substance License (if required by State) National board certification as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP-BC) or ACNPC-AG) Acute Care Adult (ACNP-BC) Additional certifications require approval from a market executive leader: Family (FNP-BC) or (FNPC) Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP-BC) or (A-GNP) Adult (ANP) Neurology certification preferred but not required Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form. Privileging documents and related credentialing requirements will supersede this job description in defining minimum qualifications criteria and scope of practice if variation between documents exists.
