Assistant Running Wardrobe Technician

We have vacancies for Assistant Running Wardrobe Technicians to join our Running Wardrobe team for the 2026 Festival. Previous experience is preferred but the main requirements are that applicants have an understanding of Glyndebournes high production standards are sympathetic to the demands of Artists and can handle costumes from early fashion to modern day attire quickly and carefully. Applicants must be able to work flexible hours as required.

We are looking for both show staff (working mainly afternoon and evenings)and also for laundry staff(working morning and afternoon shifts).

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

• Laundering costumes from early fashion to modern day attire using industrial and domestic machinery including steam irons washing machines and dryers.
• Assist with pre-show costume preparations and laundry checks.
• Prepare quick change areas in and around the performance space as required.
• Participate in dressing assigned artist/s in and out of all costume requirements pre during and after performances.
• Inform the Wardrobe Supervisors of costume repairs and show running issues.
• Participate in emergency repairs to costumes if required.
• Ensure good organisation of dressing rooms before during and after performances.
• Participate in all post performance costume requirements such as laundry collections clearing dressing rooms and moving costume rails.
• Assist with the transfer of costumes between the Theatre and Costume Production
• Assist with any other duties as directed by the Wardrobe Supervisors

Knowledge Skills & Experience

Essential

• Ability to follow direction and work to precise production related standards and objectives.
• Problem solving flexible approach and positive attitude.
• Excellent time management and communication skills.
• Willing and able to work under pressure and extended hours including evenings and weekends.
• A high standard of customer care and an ability to work in a collaborative manner with all staff within and outside of Production areas.
• Ability to complete all dressing and laundry duties; including helping Artistes into and out of costume moving rails of costumes and using laundry equipment.
• Ability to work in confined areas with reduced lighting states in backstage or performance spaces.
• Experience of using domestic laundering equipment.
• Understanding of the need for diplomacy and discretion with emphasis on safeguarding confidential information.
• An awareness of Health and Safety practices in live theatre environments undertaking all training as required and necessary to the performance of the role.

Desirable

• Knowledge of a backstage working theatre environment and an interest in Fashion/Costume/Textiles
• Hand and machine sewing skills.
• Knowledge of fabrics types and associated laundry care.

Rates of pay Hours & Benefits

This is an hourly paid position at (Grade 7) 12.85per hour with enhancements for working on a Sunday and over 8hrs in a day.

You will be required to work 2- 6 days/evenings per week with variable hours depending on the length of the operas allocated but will always be a minimum of 4 hours per day/ evening.

You will receive half a days paid holiday for each week worked (6.8 weeks holiday per annum pro rata inclusive of bank holidays).
