The Cougars Campus Store is Mount Royal Universitys official retailer for all Mount Royal merchandise including clothing and gifts. We offer a convenient place for students to prepare for classes with a large textbook department featuring new and used books as well as eBooks and other digital materials. We also sell a wide range of stationery products and school/office supplies. Our space houses retail services on campus including student printing OneCard textbook services and MRU merchandise sales.
About the Role
The Inventory Coordinator is the hands-on operational owner for the Campus Stores receiving fulfilment returns and back-of-house stewardship. The Inventory Coordinator processes incoming goods end-to-end (receive unbox quality control (QC) count item receipts) runs daily online-order fulfilment executes returns/logistics leads operational cycle counting and communicates readiness for floor tagging and replenishment.
This position is a limited term role working 35 hours per week ending September 17th 2027
Responsibilities
Responsibility 1 (45%): Receipt of Incoming Goods
- Coordinate intake with MRU Receiving; receive unbox count QC and verify shipments versus shipping docs;
- Create Item Receipts in the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and forward supporting docs/discrepancy notes to the Inventory & Financial Assistant (IFA) for invoice processing;
- Request missing invoices/documents and escalate vendor issues to Purchasers as needed;
- Communicate quality/return needs to Purchasing and Merchandising;
- Notify Retail Supervisor and Merchandising when product is ready for tagging/stocking; and
- Delegate any of the above tasks to casual or flex staff and verify accurate completion.
Responsibility 2 (15%) Shipping Returns Credits
- Complete or oversee the fulfillment of pick-lists packaging and execution of return-to-vendor shipments under vendor RMA instructions;
- Manage outgoing shipments; track return shipments and provide shipping docs when needed; and
- Perform first-line handling of damaged/defective goods; coordinate physical return logistics.
Responsibility 3 (25%) Inventory Management
- Execute assigned cycle counts and off-cycle investigations; prepare recounts and provide variance detail to IFA and Campus Store Manager;
- Resolve negative on-hand through operational fixes and report recurring issues for process improvement; and
- Lead operational setup for full physical inventory sessions (count teams staging logistics).
Responsibility 4 (10%) Online Order Fulfillment
- Act as lead for daily online order picking/packing/shipping or pickup;
- Complete refunds and returns as needed; and
- Manage abandoned orders policy communicating with customers who have not picked up online orders.
Responsibility 5 (5%): Backroom Stewardship and Organization
- Maintain 5S (sort set in order shine standardize sustain) backroom standards;
- Manage tagging price updates as directed; and
- Coordinate floor replenishment with Merchandising
Qualifications
- One-Year Post Secondary Certificate/Program Completion
- The position requires technical and operational competency in inventory processing ERP transaction entry shipment verification and cycle count execution. It is important that this role understands the academic cycle as well as supply chain inventory management and retail environments. While the role is hands-on it requires accuracy in system-based inventory transactions and the ability to interpret shipping documentation investigate discrepancies and understand the downstream impact of inventory accuracy on financial processes. Additional coursework or certificate-level training strengthens foundational knowledge of inventory control practices and retail operations however relevant experience is equally adequate.
