DescriptionThe Sustainability Engineer role is a resource whose primary focus is facilitating the development and introduction of new and alternate materials into the design of our products from initial concepts through development to product launch. Key activities may include assisting with product concept development FEA analysis pre-production trials coordination of lab trials and generation of Product Specifications Manufacturing.
The Sustainability Engineer will work closely with the Materials Engineering Manager and other members of the Engineering team including Materials Process Toolingand Project Engineering to help administer coordinate and manage the introduction of alternate materials that are more ecofriendly and biodegradable.
The position will also require interfacing with Vendors Engineering Operations Sales and Customers. The Sustainability Engineer will also have responsibility for management of the current design portfolio maintaining specs and drawings while looking for ways to drive SKU rationalization and cost out initiatives from a design perspective.
Responsibilities:
- Focus on research and development of alternative materials that can be incorporated into our designs and products that will drive a movement to becoming a better steward to our environment by reducing carbon footprint and reduce our use of single use materials.
- Research the latest offerings and technology in resins and colorants that are produced as a post-consumer offering and/or a Biodegradable alternative to todays virgin offerings.
- Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with internal and external customers and assures customer needs are identified and addressed.
- Coordinates and manages the testing of these offerings from design to process to finished good performance.
- Develop Cost Analysis on these offerings to provide Finance and Sales the impact on the Material Margin on the SKUs impacted.
- Collaborate with Sales and Marketing to better communicate what Mauser is doing in sustainability compared to others in the marketplace.
- LCA develop life cycle assessments
- Responsible for regulatory aspects of plastic recycling
Requirements:
- BS in Materials or Biochemical Engineering or related field or equivalent
- Resin or Materials Engineering background specially in the area of R&D
- Familiarity with plastics processing (injection molding blow molding mold design).Previous packaging design experience a plus.
- Knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma processes and Continuous Improvement principles
- Prior experience with managing new product introductions in a manufacturing environment
- Good written and oral skills. Strong communication and teamwork skills.
