  • Assistant Principal - Queen Annes County Public Schools

    JOB SUMMARY

    Under the general direction of the School Principal Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendent this is the secondary administrator of the school.

    COMPETENCIES

    • Assists the Principal in the overall administration of the school
    • Manages discipline and helps the leadership team effectively implement school-wide behavior management programs
    • Serves as a key member of the instructional leadership team and conducts formal and informal observations of teachers
    • Responds to a variety of parental concerns through telephone and face-to-face conferences
    • Serves as the administrative liaison to designated grade bands and departments
    • Provides school leadership when the Principal is out of the building
    • Assists with the supervision of after school activities as assigned by the Principal
    • Communicates and implements the Principals school vision to the school and community
    • Works with appropriate outside agencies including law enforcement and county officials as necessary
    • Assists with the development and evaluation of school crisis management plans
    • Communicates effectively with teachers and school counseling staff concerning student academic and behavior issues
    • Assists the Principal in the evaluation of school staff
    • Assists the school leadership team in developing and implementing professional development activities for the school
    • Supports the Principal in resolving issues of employee misconduct
    • Makes decisions consistent with Queen Annes County Public School policies/regulations and all applicable state and federal laws policies and recommendations
    • Builds a positive climate conducive to achieving the schools mission
    • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Principal

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Holds or eligible for a Maryland State Department of Education Administrator I Endorsement.
    • Must have at least five(5) years of successful classroom teaching experience.
    • Instructional leadership experiences that demonstrate skills and knowledge of how to effectively develop and implement curriculum; the effective use of technology in the classroom; how to evaluate motivate and develop staff; and how to provide students with an effective learning environment.
    • Must have considerable leadership experiences in analyzing assessment data to determine areas of student need and a track record of aligning instructional resources and support to improve academic achievement for all students.
    • Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students school staff parents community and business representatives and central office staff.
    • The demonstrated ability to lead the management of human and fiscal resources within district mission and values.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Ensures that every student makes academic progress achieves established yearly goals and provides a safe and nurturing school environment.
    • Actively engages parents and the community in the life of the school.
    • Provides educational and instructional leadership in a cooperative and collaborative manner which interprets initiates and implements the vision mission goals and objectives of the Queen Annes County Public Schools.
    • Supervises and motivates all personnel assigned to the school and provides ongoing feedback to improve human performance.
    • Establishes with the School Improvement Team (SIT) a School Improvement Plan with specific measurable outcomes.
    • Ensures that the school community understands and supports the School Improvement Plan.
    • Establishes (with the School Improvement Team) an appropriate staffing pattern for the school.
    • Supervises the administration and scheduling of the Maryland State Testing programs.
    • Performs administrative duties including budget development and management State and Division reporting personnel selection training evaluation development and maintenance of efficient business procedures.
    • Supervises the preparation of reports records lists student and staff handbooks and all other documentation appropriate to the schools administration.
    • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with local community and business groups to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs.
    • Assumes leadership in the management of the schools activities; attends such activities and ensures the maintenance of a safe and secure environment.
    • Performs other duties as assigned

    PAY & HOURS
    Salary is commensurate with experience and credentials. Certificated Unit II Salary Scale.
