Position Summary

The Michigan State University-Hurley Childrens Hospital Pediatric Public Health Initiative ( in the C.S. Mott Department of Public Health at Michigan State University invites applications for the position of Data Manager. This position will be based in Flint Michigan.

The overall mission of the Pediatric Public Health Initiative (PPHI) is to improve the outcomes of Flint children. Through clinical and community programs partnerships advocacy training and evaluation the Pediatric Public Health Initiative strives for health equity and serves as a national resource for best practices.

The Data Manager will support research for the Rx Kids () team led by Dr. Mona Hanna. Rx Kids is the first community-wide prenatal and infant cash prescription program in the United States. Originally launched in Flint Michigan in 2024 Rx Kids has expanded across the state to reach thousands of families with millions in direct cash support. This no-strings-attached support is transforming health and economic outcomes for families.

The Data Manager will support activities related to data collection management analysis and reporting.

Activities supported by the Data Manager may include:
Developing study protocols and manuals of procedures related to data collection entry management and analysis
Collecting and entering data
Creating and managing study databases and data dictionaries
Importing merging and transforming large datasets
Linking person level data from multiple large data sources
Cleaning and performing data quality checks and address missing data
Performing statistical analysis including creating calculated or computed variables
Writing editing and formatting reports and manuscripts
Coordinating data activities with study staff
Communicating with investigators participants and stakeholders
Other research or project activities to support work as applicable

The successful candidate will be a self-starter have the ability to work collaboratively and to take direction and have strong data and communication skills. The candidate must be organized efficient responsive to feedback professional and trustworthy.

This is a full-time 12-month end-dated position located in Flint MI. This is a hybrid position with at least 2 days in office in Flint MI.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work such as a Masters in Educational Administration Statistics Economics or Research Methodology; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research design statistical methods and knowledge of computer hardware and software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Experience collecting and managing data; proficient in using a variety of statistics software (e.g. STATA SAS SPSS R etc); ability to translate data between statistical software programs; experience working with large datasets importing merging and transforming data; knowledge of maternal and infant outcome data and/or administrative data a plus; ability to perform statistical analysis such as regression and causal inference; authored or co-authored peer-reviewed publications; excellent oral and written skills with the ability to write and conduct daily communications; able to work independently in an organized and efficient manner; pays attention to detail; self-starter; highly self-motivated; adept at working in large interdisciplinary teams; quick learner and high sense of responsibility and honesty; experience working with under served families from culturally and economically diverse populations.
