Job Description Summary
In compliance with Article 9 of the agreement between the PFT and the District only probationary and tenured faculty are invited to apply to the following full-time tenure-track faculty vacancies. This listing is being posted for ten (10) working days. If interested you must submit ALL required application materials by midnight on the stated deadline. Under general supervision of the Vice President of Instruction the Psychology Instructor teaches a broad range of courses in general psychology social psychology research methods and developmental psychology. Teaching schedule may include evening or weekend hours as part of contract assignment. Instructors are expected to use and keep abreast of advanced teaching methods including the use of current and future technologies to support student learning and career objectives.
Desirable Qualifications
1. Recent experience teaching a range of psychology courses including Biological Psychology/Brain Mind and Behavior Abnormal Psychology and Research Methods in Psychology. 2. Experience with online teaching; interest and ability to develop and/or revise online and transfer-level courses within the curriculum; experience with CVCOEI course design rubric. 3. Experience teaching in a learning community cohort program (e.g. First Year Experience Umoja Puente or PACE ). 4. Willingness to represent the discipline and department on College committees advise prospective psychology majors and serve as faculty advisor to the Psychology Club. 5. Evidence of strong commitment to professional growth and development and to the continued innovation and improvement of teaching. 6. Commitment to cross-disciplinary education and collegial participation in departmental college and discipline-specific professional activities. 7. A Ph.D. in Psychology or related field is preferred. 8. Demonstrated knowledge in current teaching practices including assessment of learning outcomes. 9. Evidence of effective use of instructional technology both in the classroom and using Internet resources. 10. Ability to explain discipline-specific concepts in a clear logical and concise fashion; interact effectively with students peers and administrative personnel; work independently to solve problems; recognize variation in student backgrounds abilities and learning styles; be patient with students; maintain integrity honesty reliability and cooperation. 11. Evidence of support to an institution through service on committees collaboration with local organizations/colleges and student advising. 12. Awareness of the Colleges mission vision values and its student populations. 13. Excellent communication skills both oral and written. 14. Knowledge of and commitment to limiting the cost of course materials for students using online educational resources or other low-cost options.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Possession of a masters degree in psychology from an accredited college or university. OR 2. Possession of a bachelors degree in Psychology from an accredited college or university. AND 3. Possession of a masters degree in counseling sociology statistics neuroscience or psychiatric social work from an accredited college or university OR 4. May submit a fully satisfied lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential authorizing service to teach courses in Psychology. (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1 1990). OR 5. The equivalent qualifications. (Candidates who claim equivalency must provide conclusive evidence as clear and reliable as college transcripts as required on the District Equivalency Application Form. Refer to the Equivalency Procedures. This is not a process to waive the minimum qualifications). 6. Demonstrated cultural competency sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic cultural disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college staff faculty and students.
