Job Summary

The City of Mission is seeking a Utilities Water & Wastewater Co-op Student who is enrolled in a post-secondary Water Engineering Technology or related program and intends to return to school in the next academic term. This position is expected to run from May to August 2026.

Reporting to the Operations Manager Utilities the Co-op Student will gain practical experience supporting the operation maintenance and asset management of the Citys municipal water distribution and wastewater collection systems.

The successful candidate will assist utilities staff with a variety of field and office tasks related to municipal infrastructure including:

  • Assisting with inspections and maintenance activities for water distribution and wastewater collection infrastructure including hydrants valves manholes and wastewater mains
  • Supporting data collection and condition assessments of water and wastewater infrastructure
  • Assisting with water system monitoring data entry and record management
  • Updating asset information in GIS databases and engineering records
  • Supporting utilities capital projects and maintenance programs
  • Participating in field investigations site inspections and utility locates
  • Assisting with water meter records and service connection documentation
  • Supporting infrastructure condition assessment programs such as wastewater inspection and monitoring activities
  • Assisting with preparation of reports forms and operational documentation
  • Observing and learning about regulatory requirements related to municipal water and wastewater systems

This position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with municipal water and wastewater infrastructure operations work with experienced utilities professionals and participate in both field and technical work that supports the delivery of essential public services.


Qualifications :

We are seeking a student currently enrolled in a Water Engineering Technology or related diploma or degree program at a recognized post-secondary institution.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Strong interest in municipal water distribution and wastewater collection systems
  • Good organizational and data management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to perform field work in varying weather conditions
  • Basic knowledge of water or wastewater systems gained through academic coursework
  • Traffic safety awareness; a Traffic Control Person (TCP) certificate would be considered an asset
  • A valid Class 5 BC Drivers License

Additional Information :

The hourly rate for this CUPE Student position is $23.42 (2025 rate) per hour plus 12.4% in lieu of vacation statutory holidays other paid leaves fringe benefits and premiums.

This job opportunity is expected to start in May 2026 and continue until the end of August 2026.  The work schedule is 9 hours/day  4 days/week between Sunday and Saturday with 3 consecutive days off.
