Job Summary

TITLE: Recreation & Residential Services Assistant Director

REPORTS TO: Executive Director. The RR AD reports directly

to RR Dir and to Exec Dir as required

STATUS: Exempt. Works Evenings Weekends & Non-School Days

Job Summary: The RR Directors team together to schedule themselves and all RCs per requirements; and to train and evaluate RCs for advancement up the ladder at an individual pace for each when job duties are better than average. Social promotions or titles are not to be awarded for longevity. Ensure position control guidelines are observed & approved staffing at the 1:3 coverage ratios on all evening and non-school day shifts are met even if they have to be counted in the ratio. Plan and require implementation of well-structured student-learning activities on-and off-campus. Coordinate with the Clinical Director to incorporate both appropriate learning activities as well as Group and Individual therapies into the evening and weekend activity schedules. Take shift reports from the Education Director and brief SRCs coming onto evening shifts. They work in concert with consultants & all staff to implement the approved recreation-residential structure and staffing schedules. Work with HR Director and participate in CQI initiatives to evaluate and improve the new accountabilities expected of each employee per the current Job Descriptions. Each typically serves as Center Shift Leader (CSL) when the Executive Director is not on campus.


Requirements

POSITION EXPECTATIONS

1 Design with SRC input & HR the onboarding & training modules to be used with RCs

2 Conduct many of the RCP trainings personally after HR & Exec Dirs welcome them

3 Perform active OTMSS (Orientation Training Monitoring Supervision Support) daily

4 Hold staff accountable for conduct as described in both the EE & Std-Par Handbooks

5 Group students into approved activities with input from Clinical Dir and Education Dir

a) consider the behavioral functioning of each student

b) mix students who need to learn how not to be inappropriately triggered by peers

c) match the strengths of SRC and their RCs with needs of assigned students

6 Understand and apply the LRA Employee Progressive Disciplinary Plan with staff

7 Investigate critical incidents involving residents and resident-staff interactions

8 Notify Compliance of any high-risk issues; track; trend and provide actions to prevent

9 Help Exec Dir ensure compliance with licensing standards relevant to milieu management

10 Communicate well verbally and in writing essential behavioral management information

11 Prompt HR Dir and QMS Dir to help train RCs to improve better documentation skills

12 Attend shift change briefings and inform RCs and Night staff of important issues

13 Interact well with parents/sponsors educational consultants and referral sources

14 Model appropriate attitudes and behaviors for all staff and students

15 Respond promptly to urgent needs or crisis situations involving students or staff

16 Study BIPs and make sure RCs implement the Student Phase Systems consistently

17 Know when to call in Nurses and involve on-call therapist and administrator

18 Know performance expectations detailed in each Rec-Res Job Description

19 Serve effectively as CSL when scheduled adhering to stepped-up MBWA duties

20 Perform other responsible duties as requested by the RR Project Manager and Directors

12. Uses IEP ISP and BIP objectives when implementing instructional recreation and residential activities

13. Completes necessary documentation within times specified in policies and procedures

14. Reviews critical incidents and participates in root-cause analysis as requested by the Compliance Officer

15. Greets all visitors parents and reviewers with a smile and the utmost respect

16. Models ethical behavior when resolving misunderstandings disagreements and conflicts

17. Contributes to long-term planning; promotes collection of Outcome data; and supports CQI initiatives

18. Allocates resources efficiently; manages budgets (MEC members); reports variances in MOR meetings

19. Participates with Admissions Director in making Admission Rejection & Ejection (ARE) determinations

QUALIFICATIONS

a. Bachelors degree or higher preferred; but an experienced individual may qualify

b. Minimum of two years of working in a behavioral health job preferably with adolescents

c. Strong communication skills: Listening Speaking De-escalation and Writing

d. A year of more working at LRA is preferred but not required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

a. Able to motivate and enforce staff performance as required in JDs revised on 2/7/26

b. Able to design & implement learning activities which promote improved social interactions

c. Able to model and effectively teach staff how to manage inappropriate student behaviors

d. Able to achieve the balance between grouping students to learn/grow and to do so safe
