What Were Seeking
- Fundraising & Campaign Leadership; Experience leading or participating in major gift initiatives capital campaigns or philanthropic partnerships relevant to PSFs campaign for salmon recovery
- Indigenous Leadership & Governance; Deep understanding of reconciliation and Indigenous rights particularly in the Vancouver Island Central Coast or North Coast regions
- Non-Profit Governance Experience; Background in board service committee leadership grant stewardship strategic planning or board development
- Indigenous leaders
- Women leaders
- Individuals with diverse lived experiences related to salmon conservation
- Early to mid-career leaders
Board Director Role & Expectations
- Four regular Board meetings per year (half-day meetings in April June September December)
- One annual strategic retreat (two days optional field day in October/November typically outside Vancouver; travel expenses covered by PSF)
- Committee participation (34 meetings per year typically 12 hours during business hours)
- Committees include Program Oversight Grants Finance and Governance
- Volunteer role Directors serve without compensation
- Three-year terms renewable up to three consecutive terms (9 years maximum)
- Elected annually at the Annual General Meeting (June)
Key Responsibilities
- Approve where appropriate policy and other recommendations received from the Board its standing committees and Management Team.
- Monitor all Board policies.
- Review the bylaws and policy manual and recommend bylaw changes.
- Review the Boards governance structure approve changes and prepare necessary bylaw amendments.
- Participate in the development and review of PSFs Strategic Plan and annual priorities.
- Approve PSFs annual budget.
- Approve the hiring and release of the President and CEO including the employment agreement.
- Support and participate in evaluating the President and CEO.
- Serve on one committee of the Board which typically meet 3-4 times annually. Committees: Program Oversight; Grants; Finance; Governance.
- Assist in developing and maintaining positive relations among the Board committees staff members and community to enhance PSFs mission.
- Support PSFs fundraising efforts.
