Role Purpose

Upstream Operations Subject Matter Expert (SME) embedded within a digital / AI use case delivery squad supporting upstream operations stakeholders and cross-functional technical teams (product data science data engineering architecture). The role is non-coding and focuses on supporting discovery requirements translation validation of analytics outputs and delivery governance for upstream operations use cases that improve operational performance and decision-making across the upstream value chain.

Operating Model & Reporting

• Individual contributor role within an Agile / product-style delivery environment; supports functional delivery of upstream operations use cases from discovery to deployment.
• Works closely with upstream business teams and technical delivery teams (product managers data scientists data engineers solution architects).
• Reports to Senior Manager / Manager Upstream Operations (O&G Upstream) and supports Consulting Delivery Leadership priorities for SC&O / Digital Ops engagements.

Key Responsibilities

• Upstream Operations Use Case Discovery & Functional Support
  • Support discovery workshops and stakeholder interviews to capture decision workflows pain points operational constraints and success criteria for upstream operations transformation.
  • Draft and maintain structured documentation under Manager guidance: use case descriptions functional requirements assumptions constraints and acceptance criteria.
  • Support alignment of outcomes and operational realism across upstream operations processes and interfaces (field planning operations and performance reporting).
• Digital / AI Use Case Delivery Support (Non-Coding)
  • Translate upstream operations requirements into technical inputs for delivery teams (features inputs constraints classifications) ensuring feasibility and traceability.
  • Support delivery of upstream operations digital solutions by helping define and validate data and workflow needs including combining inputs from field planning operations and finance for performance optimization
  • Review and validate analytics outputs and dashboards for operational realism; document issues recommendations and follow-ups for iterative improvement.
• Stakeholder Management & Client-Facing Delivery
  • Engage with upstream stakeholders and delivery teams to gather structured feedback and convert it into actionable requirements/backlog items.
  • Support coordination with stakeholder groups spanning field operations (drilling completions facilities) HSE & emissions business analysts finance/accounting and data infrastructure teams (as applicable to the engagement).
  • Support pilot deployments and phased rollouts by coordinating feedback cycles and tracking issue resolution with delivery teams.
• Governance Quality & Assurance
  • Support definition and application of data quality checks operational assumptions and validation checkpoints for upstream operations datasets and model outputs.
  • Contribute to solution documentation and governance artifacts for deployed use cases (e.g. decision workflows process notes validation logs UAT evidence).
  • Support UAT planning and execution; document findings and confirm outputs are credible and usable for operations decision-making.

Required Experience & Qualifications

• 36 years of upstream Oil & Gas experience with strong upstream operations / field operations depth.
• Practical understanding of upstream operations workflows (not theory-only) including operational constraints and data quality considerations.
• Strong communication and structured documentation skills; ability to translate operations concepts clearly to non-engineers and technical teams.
• Demonstrated cross-functional delivery experience spanning operations / engineering / digital teams.
• Fluency in English (mandatory).
• Engineering Degree in Chemical / Mechanical / Instrumentation / Petroleum disciplines
• Experience from/with IOC environments and particularly Exxon Mobil / Shell / BP-type operating models.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

• Exposure to AI advanced analytics digital transformation optimization or surveillance initiatives in upstream contexts.
• Familiarity with upstream operations / production data sources and reporting environments used for operational performance tracking.
• Arabic language capability (optional).
