Job Summary

Job Title: Mechanical Supervisor Locomotive Maintenance

Location: Edmonton AB
Employment Type: Full-Time Permanent

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Supervisor to lead and oversee locomotive maintenance operations. This role is responsible for supervising mechanical teams ensuring efficient repair and maintenance of locomotives and maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Reporting directly to the General Manager the ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise with leadership skills to drive operational efficiency and team performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead supervise and coordinate daily activities of mechanical teams across multiple locations

  • Plan and manage locomotive maintenance schedules to ensure maximum availability and reliability

  • Oversee repair decisions and maintenance practices for locomotives

  • Monitor locomotive turnaround (dwell time) to optimize operational efficiency

  • Provide hands-on technical support by troubleshooting mechanical issues and equipment failures

  • Ensure all maintenance documentation complies with regulatory standards and internal policies

  • Enforce workplace safety protocols and ensure adherence to industry regulations

  • Train coach and mentor employees to enhance performance and skill development

  • Participate in budgeting processes and ensure operations align with financial targets

  • Prepare and present operational reports to senior management

  • Balance both fieldwork and administrative responsibilities

Qualifications & Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a railway mechanical or locomotive maintenance environment

  • Strong knowledge of locomotive systems maintenance practices and safety standards

  • Familiarity with Canadian railway regulatory requirements (e.g. Transport regulations)

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in supervising and managing technical teams

  • Ability to effectively train and mentor employees

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and maintenance management systems

  • Valid drivers license required

  • Willingness to work flexible hours as needed
