Peckham Inc. GO Community Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY

The Peckham GO Community Support staff will work closely with the GO Community Engagement Specialist and GO Coordinator. The Peckham GO Community Support Staff will work with young people in Flint focusing on individuals aged 18-24. This role is responsible for supporting GO participants through workforce development job placements and paid work experiences. The Community Support Staff provides comprehensive skills training including industry-recognized credentials and certifications in high-demand fields as well as career exploration assessment planning job preparedness and job placement services. These services are aimed at overcoming barriers to successful employment or continuous educational opportunities within the community. The Community Support Staff must also maintain and cultivate strong relationships with employers delivering the highest level of customer service to ensure participant success.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide individualized career exploration assessment evaluation and consultation services to individuals with barriers to employment.
  • With other staff deliver a comprehensive work readiness curriculum including job preparedness job-seeking skills training job applications phone etiquette resume development interviewing skills and job search methods.
  • Develop and maintain business relationships with local employers to facilitate talent tours and employment opportunities for referrals.
  • Write detailed client objectives and create tailored plans to help referrals identify and overcome barriers to employment including the identification of reasonable accommodations.
  • Coordinate and monitor Paid Work Experiences with community employers.
  • Offer follow-up and retention support services to clients and employers during active employment or ongoing education phases.
  • Represent Peckham at local business networking events and promote workplace diversity.
  • Provide individual counseling and crisis intervention as needed.
  • Hold students accountable for their behavior using pro-social and controlled behavior management practices.
  • Ensure all documentation including Employer contracts Work Experience forms participant timesheets and job retention services is processed in accordance with Peckham Inc. standards.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with referral sources community partners and funding sources.
  • Ensure compliance with program performance measures.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Develop and supervise programming for program participants.
  • Conduct regular activities related to vocational training and transition planning for college or careers.
  • Facilitate ongoing groups related to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy skills.
  • Accurately utilize computerized report systems for all participants and services.
  • Enroll referred students into the program and conduct orientation sessions for new students.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Promote Peckhams vision values culture and commitment to excellent customer service to all team members staff customers and stakeholders.
  • Organize and establish a highly motivated career-oriented student-led organization to develop leadership community service and teamwork skills.
  • Enter data into GPMS Workday and other databases for record keeping and data analysis ensuring case notes are regularly updated.
  • Assist in maintaining organization-wide quality standards.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree or 3 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated history of delivering excellent customer service contributing to consistently high levels of client satisfaction.
  • Passing and maintaining security background checks.
  • Maintain an unrestricted Michigan drivers license with a clear driving record.
  • Experienced in job development employer engagement and community networking.
  • Proficient with strong computer skills managing client records documentation and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Track record of successful job development.
