Job Summary

We are looking for a Senior Associate to join Piper Aldermans national Financial Services and Fintech practice working directly with Partners Joshua Annese and Shannon Adams to advise leading Australian financial institutions on complex banking and financial services regulatory matters. This is a genuine growth role with a clear pathway for responsibility client exposure and career progression.

What you will do:

You will focus on the regulatory side of financial services and assist our clients with:

  • APRA Prudential Standards
  • Bank and credit union mergers and acquisitions
  • Licensing (AFSL/ACL) requirements and obligations
  • Policy procedure and compliance framework development and review
  • All aspects of financial product design distribution origination and management (including DDO distribution arrangements disclosure obligations and customer interactions)
  • Compliance training and audits
  • Breach reporting and remediation programs
  • Industry codes such as Banking Code of Practice Customer Owned Banking Code of Practice and the new AFIA Finance Industry Code of Practice
  • Payment systems and the ePayments Code
  • Privacy Credit Reporting and the Consumer Data Right
  • AML/CTF
  • Advertising and marketing reviews
  • Regulator investigations and enforcement actions
  • Complaints handling and AFCA EDR and
  • Various types of outsourcing and service provider arrangements.

About you you have:

  • 5 years private practice experience in financial services regulation
  • Solid working knowledge of the Corporations Act (Chapter 7) ASIC Act NCCP Act AML/CTF Act and Privacy Act
  • An interest in banking credit and payments law
  • Strong self-motivation
  • Attention to detail
  • A practical clientfocused mindset and confidence interacting directly with senior stakeholders and
  • A collaborative approach and enthusiasm for mentoring junior lawyers and contributing to team culture.

This role will ideally suit someone based in Sydney or Adelaide. Melbourne or Brisbane based candidates may also be considered.
