DescriptionThis role helps to foster self-reliance care for those in need and provide opportunities for giving and service by: helping members become economically and emotionally self-reliant; providing access to essential food and clothing items helping members prepare for and respond to disasters; and providing humanitarian aid to relieve suffering; thus furthering the mission of the Church.
Under direction of the driver manager and in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations the incumbent operates a heavy-duty truck-tractor with semi-trailer hauling commodities for the Welfare Self-Reliance Department and General Church throughout the United States and Canada.
Duties include: Local driving in a safe manner by conducting daily vehicle inspections performing simple maintenance completing safety training pre-planning routes following all traffic laws and working within Federal Hours of Service guidelines to deliver on-time. Local drivers typically travel within a 350-mile radius of the home terminal. They may also act as a terminal hostler or haul farm commodities using specialized agricultural equipment which requires doubles tanker heavy-haul endorsements. Local drivers are paid piece rate for miles and stops; are responsible for their own meals and hygiene items but generally sleep at home. Expectations include electronic data entry of trip information and hours-of-service records; loading and unloading trailers; refueling and cleaning the vehicle; finding ways to maximize payloads; and conserving resources such as diesel fuel. They serve as company advocates and church ambassadors in every interaction with customers and the public.

QualificationsRequired
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Class A commercial driver license (CDL).
- Double trailer and tanker endorsements.
- Complete driver qualification file including current motor vehicle record.
- Ability to pass random drug tests.
- Valid medical certificate.
- Physically capable of heavy lifting climbing bending kneeling stooping and sitting for extended periods of time.
- Able to work in hot cold wet and dusty environments including agriculture chemicals and raw farm commodities.
- Working ability to operate basic computer programs and phone apps for safety training and data entry.
- Must display required interpersonal skills and dependability to reflect a positive image of the Church.
Preferred
- Milk Handlers Permit.
- Forklift and Pallet Jack certifications.
