We are looking for a Senior R&D Manager Research & Innovation to lead advanced research and blue-sky innovation in grid and energy transmission technologies.

Job Description

We are looking for a Senior R&D Manager to lead advanced research and blue-sky innovation in the field of energy transmission and electrical engineering. This is a high-impact role within a large multinational organization where you will explore breakthrough technologies and help shaping the future of power transmission in the context of the global energy transition.

You will operate at the intersection of deep technical research long-term strategy and entrepreneurial innovation working with world-class experts in a highly motivated and diverse team across regions and disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead advanced and exploratory R&D programs focused on future energy transmission technologies.
  • Drive blue-sky thinking beyond incremental product development identifying disruptive concepts and emerging trends.
  • Explore innovations in areas such as HVDC/HVAC transmission power systems power electronics grid digitalization advanced materials insulation systems and grid resilience.
  • Translate early-stage research into strategic technology options platforms and intellectual property.
  • Develop long-term technology and research roadmaps aligned with energy transition sustainability and grid modernization needs.
  • Lead and inspire globally distributed multicultural R&D teams.
  • Foster an entrepreneurial research culture that encourages experimentation learning and calculated risk-taking.
  • Build strong external collaborations with universities research institutes utilities startups and industry consortia.
  • Represent the company in international research programs innovation ecosystems and standardization bodies.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (PhD or Masters) in Electrical Engineering Power Systems Energy Engineering or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Significant experience in R&D or advanced research within energy transmission power systems or related industries.
  • Strong technical credibility in areas such as high-voltage systems power electronics grid technologies or electrical infrastructure.
  • Proven experience leading exploratory or breakthrough research initiatives.
  • Ability to operate effectively in complex global matrix organizations.
  • A curious forward-looking mindset with the ability to navigate ambiguity and long-term horizons.
  • Strong leadership communication and stakeholder-influencing skills across cultures.
