Position Overview
Hope & Healing Cancer Services is expanding its comprehensive oncology care model to include
integrated behavioral health services. We are seeking a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor
(LCPC) to provide specialized mental health support to oncology patients and their families.
This role will focus on addressing the psychological emotional and behavioral challenges associated
with cancer diagnosis treatment survivorship and palliative care while working closely with a
multidisciplinary oncology team.
Key Responsibilities
1. Patient Care & Counseling
Provide individual counseling to oncology patients across the care continuum (new diagnosis
active treatment survivorship end-of-life)
Conduct psychosocial assessments including distress screening and risk evaluation
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
Provide crisis intervention and emotional support
Support patients coping with:
o Anxiety depression trauma
o Treatment-related stress
o Chronic illness adjustment
o End-of-life concerns
2. Family & Caregiver Support
Provide counseling and guidance to family members and caregivers
Facilitate family meetings when needed
Support caregiver burnout and emotional strain
3. Integration with Oncology Care Team
Collaborate with:
o Oncologists
o Advanced Practice Providers (APPs)
o Nurses
o Clinical Research Coordinators
Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions
Integrate behavioral health into clinical workflows and care plans
4. Program Development
Assist in building and scaling the oncology behavioral health program
Develop:
o Screening protocols (e.g. distress thermometer)
o Referral pathways
o Standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Support integration with:
o Infusion center workflows
o Clinical trial patients (high-value differentiator)
5. Documentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the EHR (CureMD)
Ensure compliance with:
o HIPAA
o State of Illinois regulations
o Oncology and behavioral health best practices
Participate in quality improvement initiatives
6. Group & Educational Programs
Develop and lead:
o Support groups (e.g. breast cancer caregiver groups)
o Psychoeducation sessions
o Stress management workshops
Qualifications
Required
Active Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Illinois
Masters degree in Counseling Psychology or related field
Minimum 2 years of clinical experience
Preferred
Experience in:
o Oncology or chronic illness populations
o Hospital or outpatient medical settings
Familiarity with:
o Trauma-informed care
o Grief counseling
o Palliative care principles
Experience working in multidisciplinary teams
