Description

At Church Headquarters in Salt Lake City Utah the ASL Language Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supporting interpretation/translation projects for American Sign Language. This involves communication with both internal and external resources to achieve efficiency quality and cost-effectiveness targets. This roles main goal is to manage job tasks using interpreting/translation project management systems. This is an on-call position and is on an as-needed basis.



Responsibilities
  • Coordinate Interpretation Events: Help organize and manage interpretation events.

  • Real-Time Interpretation: Provide real-time interpretation.

  • Timely Translation/Interpretation Completion: Ensure translation and interpretation requests are completed promptly using established processes.

  • Commitments: Ensure clear documentation and tracking of project commitments highlighting progress and adherence to established goals.

  • Training: Offer training in translation management tools and computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools.

  • Streamlined Processes: Ensure coordination and support processes are consistent across projects.



Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree (preferably in linguistics translation communications or a related field) with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.

    • At least 1 year of experience in project management or a related field.

Certifications and Skills:

  • Certified interpreter spoken English to ASL and ASL to spoken English (RID or Utah state certified).

    • Familiarity with deaf culture and sensitivity to the needs of the deaf community.

    • Proven skills in project management time management interpersonal communication coaching and problem-solving.

Work Schedule:

  • Flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

    • This is an on-call position so the work schedule will be based on project needs.

Technical Abilities:

  • Proficiency in navigating translation and business management tools and web interfaces and handling data entry file uploads and downloads.

    • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Additional Knowledge:

  • Understanding of Church doctrine policies and ecclesiastical organization.

    • Ability to interact effectively with both external and internal resources to ensure timely project completion.

    • Familiarity with computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools is advantageous.

    • Social media experience is a plus.
