Thisposition serves as a staff level employee on a small team of professional staffresponsible forhandlingrequests from members of the State Retirement and Pension System of Maryland topurchaseservice credit or receive military service credit in accordance withapplicable retirement laws. Theincumbent must maintain an advanced understanding of retirement lawsregulationspoliciesand procedures relevant to processing these requests.
The mainfunctions of the team are as follows:
Performand approve calculations for the purchase of retirement and military servicecredit in accordance with retirement law COMAR Board and agency policies.
Reviewand certify member service records by auditing data to ensure accuracy andcompleteness.
Processadjustments to service credit contributions and interest to maintain accuratemember account records.
Applyadvanced knowledge of retirement law and policy to interpret complex cases andrecommend procedural improvements.
Thisposition duties include:
Performand review complex calculations for the purchase of retirement service creditto include transfer of service under Title 37 from a Local Retirement orPension System Leave of Absence purchases and Regular/Full Cost purchasesand the granting of military service credit. Ensures compliance with Stateretirement law COMAR Board and agency policies as well as procedures.
Auditsand approves Record of Service certifications and service credit adjustments bythoroughly reviewing member service records to ensure accurate and completereporting of membership data.
Processesfile maintenance adjustments to correct or update members service creditaccumulated contributions and interest. Ensures the accuracy and integrity ofmember account data across all systems.
Appliesadvanced knowledge of applicable retirement laws and regulations to interpretcomplex cases and make informed recommendations to the Supervisor forprocedural improvements updated forms and clearer communications.
Performsvarious administrative tasks and other duties as assigned to support theoverall operations of the Membership Maintenance Team.
Education:Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Three years of administrative staff or professional work.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to twoyears of the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelors degreefrom a college or universityfor the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans policies rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the requiredexperience.
