Description

As Senior Researcher you will join our Section for Ecosystem Based Marine Management in Lyngby where 35 employees work to advance interdisciplinary research and improve our knowledge of marine ecosystems and their management. The section offers colleagues with a variety of backgrounds and personalities working together in an internationally recognized and highly dynamic scientific environment.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Your employment will strengthen the departments competences within interactions between fisheries and marine mammals includingbycatch competition for forage fish stocks disturbances from vessels gear entanglement and noise. You will work with our excellent team consisting of academic colleagues and public and industrial partners in Denmark and internationally. Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Advance research on interactions between fisheries marine mammals and other anthropogenic pressures and present the achievements in peer-reviewed publications strategic assessments and international conferences and expert meetings.
  • Lead and contribute to the preparation of national and international grant proposals.
  • Contribute to teaching and supervision of PhD Bachelor and Master students
  • Establish and strengthen collaborations with universities national and international government agencies fisheries sectors NGOs and international research and advice networks.

Innovate monitoring approaches analytical methods and modelling frameworks related to marine mammal ecology and human impacts.

You must contribute to teaching at the Department. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages and in time are expected to master both.

As a formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as a researcher or postdoc. To be appointed as a senior researcher you must have completed a didactic/pedagogic education. If you do not have the necessary education then it is possible to complete this requirement within a period of two years of appointment.

Specific qualifications include:

  • Strong skills in acoustic data acoustic data analysis and other types of quantitative and statistical data analyses and programming
  • In depth knowledge of marine mammal behavioral ecology in the North Atlantic and Arctic experience with marine field work and estimation of fisheries interactions and bycatch
  • Experience with stakeholder contact and involvement
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
