Job Summary
St. Patrick Catholic Church is seeking a dedicated and mission-driven Middle School Literature Teacher to join our school community. This position focuses on developing students appreciation for literature through the study of novels short stories poetry and other written works while strengthening reading comprehension analytical thinking and written communication skills.
Job Responsibilities
Faith Formation and Integration
Model and promote Catholic values in all interactions with students families and colleagues.
Integrate faith-based perspectives and moral reflection when appropriate in literary discussions.
Foster a respectful and inclusive classroom environment that reflects Catholic teachings.
Participate in school Masses prayer services and religious celebrations.
Instructional Excellence
Plan and deliver engaging literature-focused lessons aligned with school curriculum state standards and Archdiocesan guidelines.
Teach students to analyze novels short stories poetry and other literary works focusing on themes symbolism character development and historical context.
Encourage critical thinking interpretation and appreciation for literature through classroom discussion and guided analysis.
Incorporate writing assignments reading comprehension exercises and literary analysis to strengthen students communication skills.
Use a variety of instructional strategies including discussion reading workshops collaborative learning and project-based activities.
Integrate educational technology and digital resources to enhance reading research and writing.
Student Development
Support students academic spiritual and social-emotional growth.
Maintain high expectations for reading engagement classroom participation and academic achievement.
Assess student progress through reading assessments essays projects and class discussions.
Provide timely and constructive feedback to help students grow as readers writers and thinkers.
Job Requirements
Bachelors degree in Education English Literature or a related field required; Masters degree preferred.
Valid Missouri teaching certification or eligibility for certification preferred.
Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church preferred.
Strong knowledge of literature reading instruction and literary analysis.
Experience teaching middle school students or working with adolescents preferred.
Excellent communication organization and classroom-management skills.
Must meet Archdiocesan compliance requirements including Safe Environment training and background screening.
