CBC News Production Services is seeking an experienced Switcher/Director to join our team in Toronto. As a team leader in the control room you are primarily responsible for taking newscasts to air utilizing the Ross Overdrive automation system. This role involves working collaboratively with editorial and production teams coding iNews lineups and executing the switching directing and mixing of all audio and video elements involved in the production through Ross Overdrive.
Key Responsibilities:
Work closely with production teams to plan and execute daily show requirements ensuring all work adheres to CBC/Radio-Canada Journalistic Programming policies and standards.
Provide anchors participants and members of the production crew with clear direction throughout the program.
Consult with other specialists involved in the program to ensure creative and technical quality throughout the production.
Perform live switching of video sources and mixing of audio and video elements such as graphics involved in the production through Ross Overdrive.
Ensure the technical quality of all newscast components.
Responsible for daily follow-ups and production reports.
Demonstrate leadership skills when participating in the planning development and execution of programs.
Assist and collaborate with fellow Switcher Directors in various situations.
Provide performance feedback to your team.
Required Qualifications and Skills
A combination of education and experience equivalent to a college diploma in production and post-production techniques plus five (5) years of practical and relevant control room experience.
Sound knowledge of the Ross Overdrive video switching systems.
Two (2) or more years of experience performing technical production and/or directing duties.
TV production experience in a news environment is essential.
Strong technical skills and troubleshooting ability.
Editorial judgement leadership and decision-making skills.
Ability to work well under pressure for extended periods with multiple people during live broadcasts.
Ability to multitask self-motivated and self-directed.
Interpersonal and communication skills.
Bilingualism (French/English) is considered an asset.
Work Environment and Schedule
You will report directly to the Manager of News Production Services.
Assignments may include CBC News Network regional newscasts from Torontos centralized control rooms The National CBC News Explore and/or other CBC/Radio-Canada News programs.
Flexibility in scheduling is a requirement as you will be required to work morning evening late-night weekend and holiday shifts.
You must be a sociable person who makes it easy to integrate into various teams and you embrace and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful workplace.
