Job Description:

The University of Florida seeks a Research Associate Professor (12-month non-tenure track faculty appointment in the Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics College of Medicine. The Research Associate Professor is expected to work closely with project investigators to advance new and ongoing research enterprises focused on early childhood development and child health outcomes. The person in this position is expected to collaborate closely with the Anita Zucker Center for Excellence in Early Childhood Studies (AZC). The Research Assistant Professor is also expected to play an integral role in current extramural awards while collaborating with HOBI and AZC investigators and affiliated faculty/staff to build a portfolio of independent and collaborative research incorporating AI machine learning and other informatics research methodology into the study of multi-level influences on child and family outcomes.

The Research Associate Professor is expected to play a critical leadership role in directing the biomedical informatics and data science for the Sunshine State Early Childhood Information Portal (The Sunshine Portal) which is a comprehensive resource for early childhood data in Florida. The Sunshine Portal is a pioneering Early Childhood Integrated Data System designed to provide vital information from across the early childhood mixed delivery system. This data system includes information from health education financial and social support sectors.

The Sunshine Portal is part of the Anita Zucker Center for Excellence in Early Childhood Studies which is an interdisciplinary center of faculty staff and students dedicated to translating science to action through innovative research professional development and community partnerships that support all young children from birth to age five and their families. The Early Childhood Policy Research Group (ECPRG) in collaboration with state and local agencies leverages this data system to conduct research to enhance the well-being of young children and families across Florida. Through the Sunshine Portal the ECPRG communicates research findings providing in-depth data and visualizations at the community level. These insights into the lives of children and families are used by local state and national early childhood stakeholders.

The Research Associate Professor is also expected to play a significant leadership role in working with electronic health record information contained in the OneFlorida Data Trust and with linked mother-baby data. The goal is to understand factors influencing child health outcomes and to develop and test corresponding health and community interventions to improve child heath.

The Research Associate Professor is expected to: (1) establish and lead their own portfolio of extramurally funded research in collaboration with ECPRG-affiliated and HOBI-affiliated faculty staff and students; (2) serve as co-investigator on the Sunshine State Early Childhood Information Portal; and (3) leverage electronic health record and linked mother-baby data in collaboration with child health these capacities the Research Associate Professor is expected to lead the development and implementation of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) methodologies; provide mentorship and guidance to project personnel to build capacity in advanced AI/ML methodologies; and assist PIs and staff in the development of dissemination products.
