FINANCIAL CONTROLLER

POSITION SUMMARY

Black Roofing and Waterproofing is seeking an experienced and hands-on Financial Controller to serve as the financial backbone of our growing construction this role you will oversee all day-to-day accounting operations from job costing and payroll to cash flow management and financial reporting ensuring leadership has the accurate timely insights needed to make smart business decisions. You will report directly to ownership and will have the opportunity to build and lead an internal accounting and administrative team as the company continues to scale. This is a highly visible high-impact role for a detail-oriented accounting professional with deep construction industry experience who thrives in an environment where precision reliability and initiative matter.

  • Monthly quarterly and annual close processes are streamlined and error-free.
  • Budgeting cost allocation and job costing processes are standardized and align with operational goals.
  • Audit and tax filings are completed efficiently and without significant issues.
  • Financial metrics are used to proactively identify opportunities for profitability and operational improvement.
  • Leadership has full confidence in financial insights for strategic decision-making.

OBJECTIVES

  • Complete monthly financial close and reporting within 5 business days of month-end.
  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts and identify discrepancies exceeding 0.5% within the month.
  • Maintain cash flow projections with variance 5% from actuals.
  • Deliver quarterly job costing and project profitability reports with 100% accuracy.
  • Prepare annual budget and achieve <2% deviation in operational expenses versus forecast.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with federal state and local tax filings and deadlines.
  • Conduct monthly WIP bonus and distribution calculations accurately and on schedule.
  • Reduce accounts receivable aging >90 days by 15% within the first year.
  • Implement financial process improvements that reduce month-end close time by 20%.
  • Maintain accurate fixed asset and inventory records reconciling monthly with <1% discrepancy.
  • Coordinate annual audit and CPA review with zero major findings.
  • Identify and execute at least 3 initiatives to improve cost efficiency or profitability within 12 months.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field (CPA preferred)
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience including construction job cost accounting
  • Minimum 3 years in a Controller or Assistant Controller capacity
  • Proficiency with Deltek ComputerEase or similar construction ERP (Sage Foundation etc.)
  • Advanced Excel skills lookups pivot tables reconciliations
  • Strong knowledge of WIP reporting and accrual accounting
  • Familiarity with GAAP tax compliance and audit processes

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Salary: $130000-$140000 depending on experience
  • Health Benefits: Medical Dental and Vision (available after 60 days)
  • 401(k): 3% match on first contributions; 50% match on next 2% after one year 100% vested on Day 1
  • PTO: 3 weeks accrued from day 1
  • Holidays: 9 paid company holidays
  • Schedule: MondayThursday 7:00 AM4:00 PM Friday 7:00 AM2:00 PM Fully On-Site Boulder CO

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Standard office environment; prolonged sitting and computer use.
  • Occasional site visits require walking on construction surfaces and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs during occasional site inspections or document transport.
