Provides unit-based leadership and support to associates; delivers patient care utilizing the nursing process through data collection and assessment identifies and determines the priority of patients problems/needs and evaluates the process and outcome of nursing care; coordinates provides and directs patient teaching activities and coordinates the care provided by health team members.

Essential Functions:

In collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team conducts initial and ongoing patient assessment analyzes assessment data creates a plan of care implements treatment and evaluates treatment effectiveness; administers medications in a safe manner consistent with the State of Ohio Nursing Practice Act and Mercy Health policies and procedures.

Provides leadership to staff in a collaborative environment that offers job satisfaction education empowerment recognition and stimulates innovative thinking; assesses and maintains staffing levels that are responsive to patient care needs and that optimizes productivity; provides staff with coaching and ongoing performance feedback; communicates job standards and expectations; leads regular meetings with employees and fosters environment for effectivecommunication

Acts as a patient safety advocate byparticipatingin ongoing quality improvement in the department.

Incorporates the professional practice model into care delivery.

MINIMUM EDUCATION

Required Minimum Education: 2 years/associate degree.

Specialty/Major: Nursing

Preferred Education: 4 years/Bachelorsdegree

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS (must be non-expired/active unless otherwisestated):

Required:

Current nursing license in the State of Ohio

Required Certifications by Nursing Department:

Emergency Department- ACLS/PALS

Med Surg/Telemetry: BLSrequiredACLS encouraged.

STEP DOWN: ACLSwith 6 months of hire.

ICU/CVU: ACLS.

Family Birth: BLS and NRP:NCCc-EFM within18 monthsof hire.

Perioperative: BLS

Cath Lab: ACLS.

Cardiac Pulmonary Rehab: ACLS.

PACU: ACLS and PALS.

Preferred:

National certification in clinical specialty or leadership

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Years and Type of Experience:

At least one year of experience as a RN in an acute environment

Other KnowledgeSkillsand Abilities Required:

More than one year of experience as a RN in an acute environment

Other KnowledgeSkillsand Abilities Preferred:

Previouscharge nurse experience preferred.
