This position is fully on-site and requires a regular presence in Fort Smith Arkansas. Remote or hybrid work is not available for this position.


JOB SUMMARY


The Risk Management & Environmental Safety Officer is responsible for identifying evaluating and controlling potential workplace hazards such as exposure to electricity working from heights airborne contaminants chemical exposure noise ergonomic hazards and biological agents. The Risk Management & Environmental Safety Officer position plays a crucial role in ensuring worker and student well-being and in preventing occupational injuries and illnesses. The Risk Management & Environmental Safety Officer must be flexible enough to assume a variety of roles as determined by the changing needs of the ACHE campuses. It is imperative that the Risk Management & Environmental Safety Officer be able to relate well to others and handle administrative responsibilities.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain health and safety policies and procedures
  • Conduct workplace assessments to identify risk
  • Develop and implement control measures to mitigate hazards
  • Monitor worker exposures to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Maintain OSHA records for compliance
  • Develop technical reports including incident investigations and present recommended improvements to workplace design and processes
  • Partner with lab managers to implement laboratory safety policies and procedures
  • Manage chemical inventory
  • Oversee Fire System Inspections
  • Assist in emergency preparedness and response planning
  • Provide Workplace Safety Training
  • Develop and administer Respiratory Protection Program
  • Represent ACHE during regulatory visits or inspections
  • Serve as Chair on ACHE Safety Committee
  • Manage Workers Compensation Program
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations or their designee
Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS


Education and Experience


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Environmental Health Environmental Sciences Biological Sciences or related field
  • Leadership and management experience
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Must have strong computer skills and the ability to learn new software applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in the field
  • Working knowledge of air permitting Tier II reporting hazardous waste management etc

Required knowledge skills and abilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in computer skills i.e. Microsoft Office.
  • Display professionalism for the college in all communication and interaction.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of ethical behavior and adheres to the standards and policies of the Arkansas Colleges of Health Education
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to prioritize and organize numerous and varied assignments.

  • May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies to include but not limited to pens pencils calculators computer keyboards telephone etc.
  • May be required to transport oneself to other campus offices conference rooms and on occasion to off-campus sites to attend meetings conferences workshops seminars etc.
  • May require significant travel or work away from campus.
  • Requires attendance at events representing ACHE both within as well as outside of the college setting.
  • Frequently required to work at a desk conference table or in meetings of various configurations.
  • Frequently required to see for purposes of reading matter.
  • Frequently required to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
  • Occasionally required to lift items in a normal office environment.
  • Frequently required to operate office and presentation equipment.
