Northern Trusts 10-week paid Summer Internship offers penultimate-year students hands-on experience within a leading global financial servicesorganisation. Based in Canary Wharf London theprogrammeruns from 29 June to 4 September 2026 and provides exposure to live projects senior leaders and structured professional development.

Eligibility& Requirements

To be eligible for this 10week UK Summer Internship candidates must:

  • Be anundergraduate student in their penultimate year of study only returning to university in September 2026 and graduating in 2027.
    Please note: thisprogrammeisnot open to firstyear students or graduates.

  • Be available toparticipatefor thefull duration of theprogramme from29 June to 4 September 2026.

  • Have theright to work in the UKfor35 hours per week.

  • Be currently pursuing an undergraduate degree and be on track to achieve a2:1 classification or above.

Foreign Exchange

The FX internship will allow candidates to gain experience across multiple teams with a particular focus on Sales and Currency Management.The FX Sales team works with institutional clients to help them manage foreign exchange risk and execute FX transactions efficiently. We partner closely with trading currencymanagementand relationship teams to deliver pricing marketinsightand tailored FX solutions across a global client base.As an FX Sales Intern you will gain handson exposureto daytoday FX sales activity and support the team across a range of analytical and clientfacing tasks including:

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting sales and trading teams with FX market analysis trade datareviewand client reporting

  • Gaining exposure to FX products pricing and execution channels

The Global Business Management team covers strategy financials governancereportingand capital portfolio oversight for the Banking & Markets division within Asset Servicing.

Key Responsibilities

  • AnalyseExcel-based trackers financialreportsand management dashboards tomonitorbusiness performance headcountcapacityand resource allocation.

  • Support leadership through the preparation of executive briefings statusupdatesand management reporting including the tracking and consolidation of delivery milestones.

  • Act as a trusted interface between leadership and various Banking and Markets teams ensuring effective communication clearalignmentand thetimelydelivery of high-quality materials.

  • Help manage a budgetled planning processconsolidatingandprioritisingrequests across teams and using datadriven analysis todetermineoptimalallocation of spend.

Liquidity Solutions

Liquidity Solutions helps clients meet operational needsoptimizereturns on cash and manage liquidity risk through integrated enterprisewide solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth qualitative and quantitative research on potentialnew costsaving/revenue generating opportunities in client liquidity solutions and cash deposits.

  • Prepare and present businesses cases for these opportunities

  • The team has responsibility for providing centralised oversight of reporting implementation and escalation for all regulationsimpactingour Capital Markets business. As a Reg Change Intern you will gainhandsonexposure to thedaytodayReg Horizon Scanning activity and support the team across a range of reg change implementation program tasks including:

  • Co-ordinating the updates to the regulatory change roadmap for key stakeholder forums across the Capital Markets and Enterprise COO function

  • Support the team in tracking the embeddedness of regulatory change framework across the markets business and status reporting on documentation compliance

  • Facilitateworkshops across impacted stakeholders to capture how a regulationimpactsan individual business unit

  • Build stakeholder relationships across FO Technology Control Compliance and Operations.

  • Business analysis supporting individual regulatory change projects supporting the capital markets business.

EMEA Asset Owners(2 roles)

EMEA Asset Owners is a Northern Trust business that supports large institutional investors such as pension funds and sovereign wealth funds across Europe the Middle East and Africa. We focus onorganisationsthat own assets (rather than manage money on behalf of others) and help them safeguard and administer their assets meet regulatory requirements and manage increasingly complex investment operations. Our purpose is to allow clients to focus on theirlongterminvestment goals while we provide trusted service strong governance and operational expertise.

The EMEA Asset Owners business isseekinga highly motivated intern to support business transformation and process automation initiatives across the region. This internship offers hands-on exposure to how a large complex financial services organizationoperates with a particular focus on improving efficiency scalability and data-driven decision-making through smarter processes and automation.

The specific project(s) will be defined based on business priorities at the time of onboarding but the intern will work closely with senior stakeholders business managers and crossfunctional partners toidentifyopportunities to streamline workflows and enhance operational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support analysis of existing business processes toidentifyinefficiencies risks and automation opportunities.

  • Assistin documenting current-state (as is) and future-state (to be) processes including controls and dependencies.

  • Contribute to the design testing and implementation of simple automation or digitisation solutions (e.g. workflow tools data tracking reporting enhancements).

  • Support data gathering validation and analysis to inform process improvement recommendations.

Asset Servicing Technology


Asset Servicing Technology supports NorthernTrusts AssetServicing business delivering the technology platforms and solutions that enable the safe efficient and scalable servicing of institutional clients globally. The function underpins key front middle and backoffice capabilities by providing secure resilient and datadriven technology solutions that support critical business operations and client outcomes.There arethree available positions within Technology two within Software Development and one within ITCapacity.

Software Development

Key Responsibilities
As part of this role you will have the opportunity to contribute to and learn from technology initiatives that support key business operations across the Asset Servicing domain including Capital Markets Global Fund Services and Transfer Agency.

  • You will gain exposure across the entire software stack fromuser facinginterfaces through to backend services and data layers. Working as part of a full stack engineering team you will have opportunities to:

  • Design and develop resilient scalable software solutionsoperatingin hybrid environments including public cloudand onpremises platforms.

  • Build solutions that incorporate non-functional requirements such as telemetry monitoring alerting and log aggregation.

  • Work with a modern technology stack including Python Java React NoSQL technologies relational databases (Oracle SQL Server) and analytical data platforms such as Snowflake.

Examples of projects you may contribute to include:

  • Transfer Agencyclient and investor experience that enables users to manage static datasubmitdocumentation review investment activity and transact via a web portal and mobile app designed to provide near real time transparency into transaction status. The platform follows an API first approach making data available externally through a secure API gateway and uses an event driven design to support real time transactions and positions.

  • Technologies you may work with on theprogramme: React (UI) / Java / Python (services) NoSQL and relational databases (Oracle SQL Server) and Snowflake for analytic

  • An internal application used by Global Fund Services Oversight teams where partners review daily alerts and controls. It is integrated with pre pricing and post pricingworkflows andincludes real time backend services that the UI connects to duringday to dayuse.

  • Technologies you may work with on theprogramme: React (UI) / Java / Python (services) plus SQL Server/Oracle and Snowflake depending on the data and reporting needs.

  • Through this experience you will develop strong technical foundations and practical exposure to enterprise scale systems within a global financial services environment.

IT Capacity Management

IT Capacity Management is the discipline within IT service design that ensures technology platforms and applications have the right amount of capacitycompute storage network and supporting componentsto meet current and forecasted business demand in a reliable andcosteffectiveway. It combines continuous monitoring of performance and usage analysis of historical trends and business volume drivers andforwardlookingforecasting toidentifyrisks before theyimpactservice.

Key Responsibilities

As part of this role you will have the opportunity to contribute to and learn from technology initiatives that support key IT Capacity Management initiatives across Technology.

  • Build and enhance automations using Power Automate to streamline capacity management workflows across SharePoint ServiceNow Dynatrace and Power BI.

  • Design andmaintaindata pipelines that collect normalize andvalidatecapacity and performance data from monitoring and ticketing systems

  • Develop Power BI dashboards and reports to visualize capacity trends risks and exceptions for stakeholders

Global Family Office (GFO) -Wealth(2 roles)

Global Family Office (GFO) is a sales and client servicing team dedicated to supporting very wealthy families and their charities and foundations. With over $200mm in investable assets these families act like institutions but require a personal and high touch approach as well as the highest level of discretion. Ourfamilieswealth is mixed in nature with some being multi-generational inherited wealth and some being new entrepreneurial wealth.

KeyResponsibilities:

  • Working closely with the EMEAs relationship management team on a variety of projects that will support the enablementgrowthand development of the client franchise

As an NTAM Operations Intern you will gain handson exposure supporting daily trading needs change management onboarding reporting data management third party management controls activity and support the wider NTAM team across a range of analytical and clientfacing tasks including:

  • Supporting Portfolio Management and Trading Servicing through pre and post execution analysis and confirmations

  • Gaining exposure to Onboarding new clients and funds to the NTAM platform

  • Supporting Corporate Action Events working with the portfolio managers and gathering election information.

  • Work on the oversight of Third Parties and ensuring that they adhere to our business needs and adhere with regulatory requirements.

  • Gain exposure to Regulatory environments through our Regulatory Change and Regulatory Reporting functions.

Business Management

In thispositionyouwillwork closely with the Business Management team within NTAM International providing direct support to the Head of NTAM International and Sustainable Investing team across a broad range of strategic and operational priorities. This role offers exposure to senior leadership decisionmaking and the opportunity to contribute to the development and execution of strategic initiatives that support the international business. The intern willassistwith strategic analysis preparation of management materials and coordination of inputs from multiple stakeholders to help drive clarity alignment and execution across the platform.

In addition the intern will support core business management activities spanning finance communications project oversight and governance. Responsibilities will include assisting with financial tracking and reporting drafting internal communications and briefing materials and helpingmonitorprogress against key projects and initiatives. The intern will also support governance processes by helping prepare meeting materials tracking actions and decisions and ensuringappropriate documentationand followup. This role is well suited to a highly motivated individual seeking handson experience in a fastpaced international asset management environment with strong exposure to strategy leadership support and crossfunctional collaboration.

Fixed Income Portfolio Management & Trading

The London Fixed Income team is a small high-impact group operating within a globally integrated investment platform. The team relies heavily on data-driven analysis and analytical tools to generate investment insights support portfolio decisions and enhance operational will work directly with the London team lead while collaborating with global colleagues across research portfolio construction and analytics. The role is highly analytical focused on working with data models and dashboards to support macroeconomic research market analysis and portfolio monitoring. Interns will take ownership of defined workstreams and deliver tangible outputs during the programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support portfolio managers with market research data analysis and performance reporting

  • Monitor portfolio positions risk metrics and trading activity

  • Conduct market and competitor research across European asset management markets

  • Support macroeconomic research across European economies (growth inflation monetary policy fiscal trends)
