Job Summary

Job Purpose:

Accountable for providing the necessary support to the site so that all SHE requirements are met. To implement of the Safety policy and procedures to comply with the safety regulations and reduce the number of unsafe practice in operations.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12/ Standard 10 (Mandatory)
  • B. Safety Health and Environmental Management NQF Level 7 (Mandatory)
  • Drivers License (Mandatory)

Years of related prior experience:

  • 5 years SHEQ field (Safety and Health Environment Integrated Management System experience (Mandatory)
  • Experience in managing Health & Safety in underground mines
  • 5 years Process and documentation management and control experience (Recommended)
  • Computer Literacy (Mandatory)



Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with Site Leader in providing SHE support to achieve SQLCT
  • Develop Implement and Manage the site SHE business plan
  • Ensures review and maintenance of all SHE procedures
  • Facilitate interaction with SHE regulators
  • Support safety leading indicators and critical risk management
  • Provides key input to MoC process
  • Monitor and measure compliance site Safety Management Plan
  • Monitor and measure compliance site Environmental Management Plan
  • Participates in significant incident investigations
  • Ensure corrective actions are appropriate and effectively implemented
  • Ensures Radiation Safety Officer (statutory role) for minerals is fulfilled to meet site requirements
  • Encourage participation in Health promotion
  • Ensures all statutory and business reporting requirements are met in a timely manner

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Business Operations and Tactical Planning

  • Assure compliance with SHEQ regulations Tronoxs policies management standard and procedures for the operations.
  • Provide support and technical guidance to operations management to ensure corporate programs and legal requirements are effectively implemented and maintained.
  • Implement the SHEQ policy and procedures to comply with the SHEQ regulations.
  • Ensure management and employees understand workplace hazards and risks in order to drive an accident prevention culture aligned to SHEQ strategy.
  • Evaluate SHEQ technical compliance and risk concerns and recommend preventative measures and solutions in a timely manner.
  • Implement corrective action to minimise SHEQ hazards and incidents.
  • Provide oversight of accident investigations and corrective actions for own BU to assure accurate classification of injuries and reporting.
  • Participate in audits of environmental safety and health management systems program certification and training.
  • Conduct safety audits.Compliance Governance and Assurance
  • Implement effective SHE management systems for own job and for the section.
  • Update and report on Safety risk assessment.
  • Adhere to the requirements of quality management systems.

  • Demonstrates an excellent safety behaviour and attitude follow regulatory practices and rules recognises and promote hazard reporting and ensures effective safety reporting.

Best Practice and Knowledge Management

  • Effectively utilise applicable processes and procedures to fulfill roles and responsibilities.
  • Investigates opportunities to increase the efficiency of processes.
  • Measures the effectiveness and investigate measures to continually improve the SHEQ of processes.
  • Escalate any problems that may lead to the delay of information required for report and analysis in order to ensure optimised applicable processes / systems.
  • Maintain extensive internal and external professional networks.
  • Continuously do safety checks and propose improvements where applicable.
  • Ensure continuous improvement of accessibility to relevant reports.

Customer and Client Relationship Management

  • Provide support to the customer in the development of report writing framework and processes for central repository management.
  • Assist in the evaluation of discipline-specific standards principles and practice to enable planning design and implementation of safe outcomes that support the business strategy.

Effective People Management

  • Articulate adopt embrace and lives Tronoxs values.
  • Provide inputs for the planning and recommendations for staff to be efficiently deployed and identification of areas of further development (projects and training).
  • Manage the development and implementation of a personal learning and growth plan to ensure continued development.

Business Operations and Tactical Planning

  • Adhere to safety legal requirements to projects and operational sites (technical job requests) to ensure Tronox retain certification and adhere to legislation.
  • Support line management with regards to safety compliance and any change initiatives.
  • Create awareness address all unsafe practices and accept responsibility for area of responsibility.
  • Ensure regular safety inspections are conducted and that good housekeeping practices are upheld.
  • Provide support to the analysis of safety specific incidences to enable Tronox to take corrective action monitor operational trends.
