Position Overview
An established civil engineering organization is seeking an experienced Licensed Professional Land Surveyor / Survey Manager to lead surveying operations and oversee field and office teams responsible for precise measurement and mapping of land and infrastructure projects.
This role will plan organize and direct the work of surveyors and technicians performing boundary surveys topographic surveys subsurface utility engineering (SUE) and related surveying services. The successful candidate will ensure high standards of accuracy safety regulatory compliance and client satisfaction across multiple projects.
The position requires a strong technical background in surveying operations leadership experience managing multiple crews and the ability to maintain strong relationships with internal teams and external clients.
Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
Manage and oversee multiple survey field crews and technicians
Assemble field data and perform survey calculations
Prepare legal descriptions and survey documentation
Provide quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) for all survey deliverables
Manage project budgets scheduling and billing
Ensure compliance with Federal State and local surveying regulations
Maintain strong client relationships and represent the company in meetings
Lead business development efforts within the surveying discipline
Promote and enforce safe work practices among all survey personnel
Conduct performance management coaching and mentoring for team members
Required Qualifications
Tennessee Professional Registered Land Surveyor (PLS) license
10 years of professional surveying experience
High school diploma or equivalent
Working knowledge of Federal State and local surveying regulations
Experience managing survey teams and field operations
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
General understanding of survey plan preparation using:
InRoads / MicroStation
OR AutoCAD Civil 3D
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) designating and locating
Familiarity with aerial mapping technologies
Experience with LiDAR scanning
Familiarity with sUAS / drone surveying
Working Conditions
Office-based work (approximately 95%) in a professional environment
Occasional field work required
Field conditions may include heat cold humidity or wet environments
Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs may be required
Must-Have Requirements
Tennessee Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license
10 years of surveying experience
Knowledge of Federal State and local surveying regulations
Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation / InRoads
Ability to lead multiple survey crews and projects

Key Responsibilities Lead bridge inspection teams and coordinate personnel equipment and field operations Prepare in-office support documentation for upcoming inspections Conduct field inspections including measurements condition assessments and documentation of structural findings Evaluate structural conditions and identify deficiencies or safety concerns Prepare detailed technical bridge inspection reports in accordance with NYSDOT standards Perform structural calculations including load ratings and structural analysis Develop repair recommendations and construction documentation for flagged conditions requiring immediate or interim repair Ensure inspection activities comply with federal and state bridge inspection standards Coordinate effectively between field teams engineers and project stakeholders Required Qualifications Candidates must meet the following requirements: Minimum 3 years of bridge engineering experience in design inspection construction or related bridge engineering work Active drivers license and ability to travel to field inspection locations New York State Professional Engineer (PE) License or ability to obtain within one month of employment Candidates must also have completed at least one of the following: FHWA/NHI Course #130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges (2-week course) FHWA/NHI Course #130056 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges for Professional Engineers (1-week course) NYSDOT Bridge Inspection Certification Preferred Experience Experience leading bridge inspection teams Experience performing bridge load ratings and structural evaluations Familiarity with NYSDOT bridge inspection standards and specifications Experience preparing engineering reports and repair recommendations Knowledge of bridge inspection and analysis software platforms Working Conditions This position involves significant fieldwork and physical activity. Candidates must be comfortable working in varying outdoor conditions and performing physical tasks such as: Bending kneeling and standing for extended periods Lifting and carrying materials up to 50 lbs Working in environments including heat cold humidity and wet conditions
