The Grammar School seeks a dynamic Director of Learning Support with a background in special education who will lead manage and articulate an extensive vision for the Learning Support Team (LST) which provides individualized and/or small group tailored support to students with a variety of learning needs. TGS the oldest of the independent elementary schools in southern Vermont attracts families from Vermont and New Hampshire and has been a forerunner in programming in the arts service learning and nature-based education. The school is located on 60 acres of fields and forest and has a close-knit community of 130 students and adults. Outdoor study and play are key components of The Grammar Schools educational philosophy. Our students participate in hands-on learning activities that combine the humanities and the arts and cultivate practical intellectual and creative skills. Collaboration and respectful interactions are attributes of our curriculumQualificationsMasters degree in education preferred bachelors in special education requiredCertifications in learning differences neurodiversity and trauma informed teaching and leading practices preferredKey ResponsibilitiesThe Director of Learning Support reports directly to the Assistant Head of School and provides vision clarity and leadership to the Learning Support with the Director of Admissions to assess prospective and current students educational histories and evaluations to recommend appropriate closely with the mental health counselor to provide holistic learning support for students that takes into consideration the needs of the whole implement and adapt learning plans for 30 students in collaboration with teachers students families and educational implement and adapt positive behavior support plans for students experiencing behavioral challenges by utilizing trauma informed practices such as Compassionate and Proactive Solutions by Ross Greene. Deliver direct one-on-one instruction particularly in language-based learning foundational mathematics skills across K-8 and executive function students cognitive processing utilizing assessments such as the CAS2 Brief. Analyze the assessment results to provide a holistic picture of student accommodations for classroom learning and provide compassionate coaching to teachers to learn best practices and sustainable strategies. Partner with admissions faculty families outside educational professionals and school districts to ensure comprehensive academic flexibility in both implementing best learning practices and pursuing success for each student. Possess a high degree of cultural competency and demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and collaborating with colleagues within and across subject patience empathy enthusiasm and optimism in their work with students families and excellent interpersonal communication (writing listening speaking) and organizational skills and exhibit the ability to interact and work effectively with students families staff and other employees (especially during difficult situations).Facilitate professional development for staff related to neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed meetings with families to share information related to behavioral concerns and learning support needs.
