Position Summary
As an integral member of UHN Pharmacy Services the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor supports departmental quality assurance and compliance by ensuring adherence to controlled substance regulations leading proactive diversion surveillance and investigations and championing continuous quality improvement in collaboration with Pharmacy Leadership Safe Medication Practice and organizational partners. Reporting to the Manager Quality & Compliance this position further strengthens the departments compliance efforts by conducting audits and supporting assurance activities across all controlledsubstance workflows
Duties
- Conduct routine and targeted controlled substance audits including participation in clinical unit narcotic counts to verify inventory accuracy and ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
- Perform narcotic tracers across clinical units to assess controlled substance handling practices and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Generate review and analyze Automated Dispensing Unit (ADU) reports related to narcotic discrepancies wastage overrides and other high-risk transactions; follow up with clinical unit managers to resolve outstanding issues.
- Identify investigate and escalate unusual patterns or high-risk behaviours that may indicate potential narcotic diversion.
- Develop update and support implementation of policies procedures and standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to controlled substances management and compliance.
- Collaborate with Pharmacy Operations Leaders and Managers to resolve operational issues and discrepancies in accordance with hospital and departmental policies.
- Ensure inventory management practices documentation and operational procedures meet hospital standards and Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) requirements.
- Participate in medication safety quality assurance and continuous quality improvement initiatives related to controlled substances management.
- Provide system administration and reporting support related to pharmacy systems and controlled substance monitoring tools.
- Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as assigned.
Qualifications :
- Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) required
- Completion of a recognized Pharmacy Technician diploma program required
- Successful completion of the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) Qualifying Examination required
- Minimum three (3) years hospital pharmacy experience required
- Experience with Automated Dispensing Units (ADUs) narcotic reconciliation discrepancy management and controlled substance inventory monitoring preferred
- Knowledge of controlled substance regulations hospital policies and OCP standards an asset
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience an asset
- Experience with pharmacy information systems and medication distribution technologies an asset
- Excellent communication organizational and analytical skills required
- Demonstrated initiative accountability and collaborative leadership abilities
