Job Functions:

In accordance with the organizations mission and vision provide a safe enriching and engaging environment for our children within the CREATE summer camp program (Kindergarten through 5th grade). A summer camp counselor is responsible for keeping children on schedule engaged and actively participating in all program activities throughout the day.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Plan and implement developmentally appropriate daily activities that support childrens social emotional educational and recreational growth including structured activities and opportunities for free play.
  2. Supervise children at all times during program activities including enrichment programs field trips swimming lessons and walks to/from the YMCA and bus transportation ensuring their safety and well-being.
  3. Manage groups of children as needed providing guidance support and encouragement.
  4. Ensure assigned groups follow the daily program schedule including timely transitions between activities meals enrichment programs field trips and transportation.
  5. Support positive behavior and address conflicts fostering a respectful and inclusive environment.
  6. Serve as a positive role model for children volunteers and parents.
  7. Organize and oversee volunteers assisting with program activities.
  8. Communicate with parents as needed regarding positive feedback and minor concerns.
  9. Collaborate closely with other staff to coordinate activities and support smooth program operations.
  10. Maintain accurate administrative records including transition logs lesson plans sign-in/out sheets accident/incident reports transportation logs permission slips and other required documentation.
  11. Respond appropriately to minor injuries or emergencies and follow established safety protocols.
  12. Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to meet evolving program needs.
  13. Contribute to a safe healthy and clean environment by tidying activity areas cleaning materials and encouraging children to maintain cleanliness.
  14. Assist with transitioning the program materials and activities across the street for summer camp and support clean-up and move-out processes at the end of summer.
Requirements

Education and Experience:

High school degree or GED completed. Experience working with children preferred. Extensive exposure to school-age childrens programming is highly desirable. Heart for ministry and comfort working with poor and homeless families required. Bilingual (Spanish English) is a plus.


Skills Requirements:

Requires understanding of poverty a high degree of maturity strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work and communicate with low socio-economic and diverse parents and clients professionally and diplomatically. Ability to verbally communicate and resolve conflicts between teenage children. Ability to plan organize and conduct teenage education programs. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to use a computer and related software. Ability to administer CPR and First Aid to children and implement safety procedures. Ability to work effectively with others within a multi-disciplinary team framework including staff and volunteers. Ability to supervise and direct volunteers. Demonstrates maturity and sensitivity to issues of faith culture and other sources of diversity.


Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift to 40 pounds. Hearing and speaking ability which allows for effective oral communication of information. Physical emotional and spiritual stamina to handle job-related issues and stress.


Other:

Must demonstrate legal authorization to work in the United States. Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Must pass required background pre-employment screening.
