Job Description:
A Purchase Officer in a steel manufacturing company
manages the end-to-end procurement of raw materials (iron ore coal scrap ferroalloys) machinery spares and industrial consumables. They ensure uninterrupted production by negotiating contracts maintaining supplier relationships managing inventory levels and optimizing costs to meet budget targets.
- Strategic Sourcing & Negotiation:Research and identify reliable suppliers; negotiate price payment terms and delivery schedules for raw materials and spares to ensure cost-efficiency.
- Procurement Operations:Raise manage and track Purchase Orders (POs) from issuance to delivery ensuring compliance with quality standards (e.g. ISO) and technical specifications.
- Vendor Management:Evaluate supplier performance build strong relationships and develop alternative sources to reduce supply chain risk.
- Inventory Control:Monitor raw material stock levels liaise with production and stores to prevent stockouts or over-ordering and coordinate logistics.
- Cost & Market Analysis:Monitor market trends for raw materials (e.g. coal/metal prices) to optimize procurement costs.
- Documentation & Reporting:Maintain accurate records of purchases invoices and supplier documentation.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience:Generally 3-5 years in procurement specifically within steel metal or heavy engineering industries.
- Knowledge:Strong understanding of raw materials like sponge iron iron ore coal and ferroalloys.
- Skills:Excellent negotiation communication and analytical skills with proficiency in ERP software or SAP.
- Education:Degree or Diploma in Engineering Logistics or Business Administration preferred.
- Candidate should hold a degree or diploma in a related field.
- Strong knowledge of materials and suppliers in the metal industry.
- Ability to negotiate favorable credit terms and pricing.
