The University of Southern Maines Disability Services Center is seeking a Student Access Coordinator.

The targeted start date for this position is July 6 2026.

TheStudent Access Coordinatorserves as a key member of the Disability Services Center team advancing equity and access for students with disabilities at the University of Southern Maine and the University of Maine Law School. This position ensures compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 by coordinating and implementing individualized accommodations and supports for students. The Student Access Coordinator will meet with and maintain a caseload of students and respond to student faculty and staff questions.

Key responsibilities include coordinating accommodations such as exam adjustments notetaking services assistive technology alternate format materials housing and dining accommodations and emotional support animal requests. The coordinator also works closely with campus departments and community partners supports students in developing self-advocacy skills and assists with outreach and university events.

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong organizational skills attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities while working collaboratively with students faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds. Excellent communication skills sound judgment and a commitment to confidentiality and student success are essential.

The Disability Services Centerat the University of Southern Maine supports students with disabilities by promoting equitable access to academic programs services and campus life. The center works collaboratively with students faculty and staff to coordinate reasonable accommodations and provide resources that help ensure students can fully participate in their educational experience. Through individualized support consultation and advocacy the Disability Services Center assists students in navigating the accommodation process building self-advocacy skills and achieving their academic goals while maintaining compliance with federal and state accessibility laws.

This is a full-time position located on our Portland Campus with a starting annual salary up to $50000.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelors degree in Education Counseling Social Work Psychology Public Health or related field combined with 3 years of relevant experience working with students with disabilities.
  • Ability to interpret educational testing and apply ADA/Section 504 regulations.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working with students faculty administrators and community partners.
  • Operational knowledge of FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act).
