Responsibilities
The Underwriter - Equine programs role provides technical and authoritative support as well as effective management for all underwriting/administrative initiatives in the accomplishment of the corporations financial strategic and business plan objectives as respects to the Equine/Cattle Program.
- Manage a book of equine mortality business
- Be responsible for the growth of that book to meet the goals and objectives of the business unit
- To achieve terms conditions and pricing that meet company profit objectives
- Achieve loss ratio and production goals and deliver exceptional services in a timely manner
- Collaborate with agents and brokers to foster productive and profitable relationships
- Participate in continuing education and training
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Four (4) year college degree or commensurate experience
- 2-5 years of experience in equine underwriting. Any experience of livestock underwriting would also be beneficial (the position title may be adapted to account for the level of experience of the candidate).
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience
- Advance knowledge of horses including the various breeds and uses. Knowledge of common diseases and health issues with horses.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with the Microsoft suite of products
- Open to relocation to Lexington KY or located within travel distance to a W.R. Berkley company office
