JOB TITLE:School Bus Driver
CLASSIFICATION:Transportation - MACP
REPORTS TO:Director of Transportation & Safety
JOB SUMMARY:
The school bus driver operates school buses and other district vehicles in transporting passengers to and from school special events and other school-related activities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Drive bus on regularly scheduled routes or on other activities.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections fueling and cleaning of assigned bus.
- Manage student behavior and control of passengers as related to safety.
- Daily maintenance of route books bus logs student documentation and other data as required.
- Communicate with building staff parents transportation personnel and general public.
- Conduct bus fire drills and emergency evacuation drills to ensure student safety.
- Provide first aid to injured and/or ill students.
- Observe and obey state and local laws board policy district rules regulations and procedures to prevent potential damage and/or vandalism and to ensure passenger safety.
- Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regularly work hours specified.
JOB REQUIREMENTS; MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Skills Knowledge and Abilitiesrequired to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:
- Skill and ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with all individuals in a professional and courteous manner.
- Ability to exercise discretion and maintain trust and confidentiality.
- Ability to develop positive amenable relationships with staff students and public
- Skill and ability to follow and give written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to perform physical work both indoors and outdoors to include lifting up to fifty pounds walking standing and bending.
- Knowledge of and ability to use various equipment related to job responsibilities.
- Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
- High school graduation or its equivalent.
- Valid Washington Drivers License with acceptable driving record required.
- Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and certification by the State of Washington as an authorized school bus driver or ability to obtain required.
- Successful completion of school bus driver training course which includes 40 hours of classroom and in-bus on the road training.
- Be at least 21 years of age with one-year experience as driver of truck or commercial vehicle or at least three (3) years of experience as driver of a passenger vehicle.
- Favorable WSP and FBI fingerprint background check.
- All drivers are subject to pre-and random post-employment testing for controlled substances and alcohol.
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification required.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Experience driving a school bus preferred.
