Teacher Job Description Primary Purpose
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society and live a good life with others.
Qualifications Education/Certification
- Bachelors degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned
- Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
- General knowledge of curriculum instruction and assessment
- Ability to instruct students and manage classroom behaviors
- Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
Experience
- At least one year student teaching or approved internship
Major Responsibilities and Duties International Baccalaureate
- Teachers attend IB training when applicable; costs paid by MWS for content-related training (may occur during summer).
- Expectations around unit planning collaborative planning and instructional responsibilities are assigned and communicated as necessary.
Instructional Strategies
- Make instructional decisions based on what is best for students.
- Develop and implement unit and daily plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements with written evidence of preparation.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
- Present subject matter according to Texas Education Agency guidelines board policies and administrative regulations.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies activities materials and technology that reflect understanding of student learning needs.
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instruction.
- Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula per Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Work with staff to determine instructional goals objectives and methods per district requirements.
- Use technology to strengthen teaching and learning.
Student Growth and Development
- Embrace cultural diversity to enhance student learning experiences.
- Deliver high-quality instruction that engages each student.
- Provide opportunities for students to explore and develop their unique identities.
- Help students improve study methods using IB Approaches to Learning skills.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement.
- Assume responsibility for assigned extracurricular activities.
- Be a positive role model and support the school mission.
Classroom Management and Organization
- Create and maintain a safe learning environment academically emotionally and physically.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for student development.
- Manage student behavior per the Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
- Assist in selection of books equipment and instructional materials.
Communication
- Maintain professional relationships and treat all students parents colleagues and community members with respect.
- Establish and maintain open communication via conferences with parents students principals and teachers.
- Use effective communication skills to present information clearly and accurately.
- Respond to all communication (emails calls) within 48 hours.
- Participate in collaborative planning for vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment.
Professional Growth and Development
- Participate in research-based professional development that directly impacts learning.
- Comply with state district and school regulations and policies for teachers.
- Compile maintain and file all required reports records and documents.
- Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as requested.
- Work with coordinator to identify develop and reflect on unit plans.
Expectations Beyond the Classroom
- Duty: Teachers are expected to complete assigned supervisory duties (e.g. morning crosswalk cafeteria supervision carline).
- Tutorials: Two weekly tutorial sessions required (one before school one after school) posted outside classroom and on shared document.
- Back to School/Open House Nights: Teachers attend two events after school to build rapport with students/families:
- Back to School Night (week before school starts)
- Open House (near fall break) additional parent conference time may be required
- Additional After-School Activities/Trips: Teachers commit to trips/activities at grade level. For 8th-grade overnight trips teachers receive two leave days.
Working Conditions
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Frequent standing stooping bending pulling and pushing.
- Move music instruments media equipment desks and other classroom items.
