:59 PMWe are seeking a Head of Content and Production who will work in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Senior Managing Editor to support and mobilize the Radio-Canada OttawaGatineau newsroom on a daily basis.
In this role you will be responsible for regional news content produced across all internal productions including Radio-Canadas digital platforms the Téléjournal Ottawa-Gatineau the Téléjournal 18h30 the Vidéojournal and radio news bulletins. The successful candidate must have extensive experience in journalism and demonstrate exceptional editorial judgment. You will collaborate closely with teams on a daily basis and make timely decisions in complex and high-pressure environments. A strong understanding of our various platforms will be considered a valuable asset for this position. You must also demonstrate confident and positive leadership along with strong interpersonal skills to help maintain a harmonious work environment. You will support the different teams on a daily basis by ensuring compliance with journalistic standards and practices and alignment with the strategic direction set by management.
Key responsibilities:
Participate in daily editorial assignment meetings.
Ensure continuous alignment with the editorial vision among journalists producers and senior web editors.
Support teams with decisions related to story selection editorial angles resources field deployment staffing decisions etc.
Help ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of newsroom activities by following up with internal partners.
Ensure compliance with journalistic standards and practices.
Ensure optimal visibility and impact of multiplatform content.
Provide ongoing feedback to journalists (coaching) and develop professional development plans for them.
Supervise new employees and interns ensure effective team operations on a daily basis and address technical needs.
Manage and approve schedules.
Guide support mobilize and motivate teams to propose and develop stories that are relevant to the community.
Propose solutions for implementing strategic initiatives structure team workflows accordingly and contribute to defining objectives.
Participate in hiring committees for staff recruitment.
Contribute to the employee performance management process.
Monitor technical technological and logistical constraints and formulate recommendations for equipment acquisition new methods and technical practices while staying informed of emerging technological trends.
Monitor and review newscasts reports and other newsroom content to provide feedback and support program evaluation.
Collaborate with partners in programming operations and English Services on staff development problem-solving and various projects.
Respond to complaints.
Identify and coordinate training needs for team members.
When required recommend measures to improve performance.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Managing Editor.
Profile sought:
The successful candidate must possess the following qualifications and skills:
Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline and at least ten (10) years of experience in journalism
In-depth knowledge of journalism and broadcast production
At least five (5) years of experience supervising teams particularly in a producer role
Experience managing employees budgets and projects
Excellent knowledge of current events particularly those relevant to the OttawaGatineau audience
Understanding of the realities of audiences in minority-language communities
Strong knowledge of journalistic standards and practices
Creativity initiative and agility in developing innovative solutions evaluating work methods and creating new processes
Knowledge of effective management and change management practices
Leadership skills to mobilize unite and inspire creative and motivated teams
Proven ability to support employee development and provide constructive feedback
Ability to manage sensitive matters with confidentiality
Positive attitude and solution-oriented leadership
Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
Openness to diverse perspectives ideas and experiences
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple evolving files simultaneously
High level of autonomy and the ability to anticipate developments
Bilingualism in French and English (spoken and written)
