Job Summary

The Transportation Coordinator will facilitate all aspects of student services transportation special education services coordination of services with contracted providers and communication with school personnel and the public regarding transportation-related inquiries.

Supervision:

The Transportation Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Student Services.

Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinates all programs and services relating to transportation for student services office.
  2. Work cooperatively with all Central Office staff and school administration.
  3. Arrange school year and summer transportation in coordination with external transportation service for both in and out of district special education students and students covered by the McKinney-Vento Act.
  4. Write interpret and enforce the provisions set forth in the specifications and contracts for school transportation.
  5. Maintains records and completes the necessary forms for reporting mileage and student ridership data to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to ensure District eligibility for state reimbursement of transportation costs.
  6. Plans and schedules school bus routes for transporting students to and from school for all Special Education routes. Both out-of-district and in-district routes.
  7. Organize coordinate and manage all aspects of a bus rider system including assisting with preparing the annual budget for transportation and managing the most efficient routes.
  8. Serves as the principal point of contact for Special Education transportation-related issues and concerns for parents school administrators school staff and transportation providers.
  9. Will report and coordinate all bus conduct and incident reports to the appropriate school administrator.
  10. Develop correspondence and bus transportation policies in coordination with the administration.
  11. Communicates information to families and school staff; assists families with inquiries related to bus route concerns and reports.
  12. Work with vendors to determine bus routes and busing accommodations for all Special Education students in the most efficient cost-effective and safest manner possible.
  13. Provide routing information to each school and any changes in bus routes during the school year.
  14. Work with other School Districts to identify shared ridership routes when able
  15. Continuously assess and manage bus ridership and efficiency and make route adjustments as necessary.
  16. Schedule and maintain the training logs for all transportation vendors as required by state regulations.
  17. Investigate and report all accidents related to school bus transportation and manage communication with families.
  18. Check and approve all transportation invoices including parent reimbursements andforward them to Accounts Payable for processing.
  19. Create Purchase Orders for all transportation expenses. Including any accommodations related to transportation in the students IEP.
  20. Assist in the preparation of end of year reporting with the business office and Student Services.
  21. Will assist the administration in matters and at meetings concerning transportation including the cabinet as requested.
  22. May be assigned additional duties and responsibilities at the discretion of the Director of Student Services and Superintendent or designee.

Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelors or Associates Degree preferred with three years of increasingly responsible related experience or any equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  2. Ability to work collegially and cooperatively with all constituencies within the school community.
  3. Ability to effectively meet and deal with the public; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to handle stressful situations.
  4. Experience coordinating and managing outside transportation contracts.
  5. Ability to multitask and prioritize work associated with all transportation needs in a high-volume work environment in an efficient and accurate manner. Requires excellent organizational and decision-making skills with the ability to monitor issues and problems and ensure prompt resolution.
  6. Working knowledge of computers and electronic data processing working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  7. The coordinator will be available before and after school on days school is in session as well as on evenings and weekends when buses are on the road.
  8. The Coordinator will prioritize completing the necessary tasks and set hours accordingly.
