2nd Line LINUX Engineer


Location - Stevenage

Your role will involve the day-to-day support management and development of enterprise platforms with responsibility for resolving incidents service requests and problem tickets within agreed SLAs and KPIs. Your role will involve receiving & reviewing customer related system issues via a ticketing system and resolving issues as necessary to ensure we maintain system operational states within the current SLAs & KPIs. Reviewing & producing documentation recording all processes to enable first time fixes and quick resolutions etc Monitoring system status and reporting issues quickly to service management and the relevant teams as necessary. You will need to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction by clarifying the customers needs and ensure they are met whilst working within your agreed support role as defined by your management team. Experience in providing server & application support using automation build images build documents work instructions. You will build and configure LINUX Servers utilising Scripting skills. Experience in a similar role would be beneficial. You may also be involved with other work as directed by the Service Delivery Managers and be expected play your part in contributing to new work requirements. Your role will involve raising and presenting change requests and contribute to continuous service improvement initiatives. Knowledge sharing is also vital to help grow the teams capability and experience across the estate. You will be working from assigned service desk tickets to Investigate assess and resolve customer and system issues in timescales laid down in SLAs in accordance with defined procedures and adhere to all IS Policy documents including Change & Release Configuration and Security etc Maintain the security of the network services in accordance with the Establishments Security Operating Orders and current process documentation.


Your transferable skills and experience


Capable of handling Severity 1 & 2 Incidents and provide RCA information.
knowledge of Linux systems - Supported legacy Unix OS Solaris 5.7 10.x 11.x
Understanding of Linux system administration
Scripting Python Bash KSH
Understanding of security frameworks

Hours of work: Our support requirements are Mon-Fri between 0700 & 1900. You will cover 37 hours over the week with a typical day fromor. There is no weekend working however overtime may be available which may include weekends.
