SUMMARY:Implements directives and manages the day-to-day activities of the transportation program and assists in the overall operation of the transportation department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the Transportation Director by implementing directives and managing day-to-day operational processes that provide safe efficient and effective pupil transportation services for the district.
- Provide consistently high levels of leadership communication and oversight in the direction of support staff drivers and aides.
- Evaluate and utilize appropriate Transportation Planning Routing and Management software in support of the departments goals and mission.
- Handle parental complaints.
- Assist in planning transportation services.
- Assist in investigating and review of all accidents.
- Coordinate daily pupil transportation functions including dispatch routing of vehicles special education and other transportation functions such as field trips athletics and scheduling of staff.
- Gather information summarize results and prepare reports as directed by the Transportation Director.
- Utilize GPS videos and routing software to analyze driver efficiency and troubleshoot route issues.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with departmental staff school administration vendors city officials parents and community members so as to meet departmental goals.
- Provide critical evaluation in the areas of driver and aide performance bus stop selection route performance and overall service delivery as assigned by the Transportation Director.
- Assist the safety/training staff in developing training to improve bus driver/aide performance.
- Respond to emergencies within protocol guidelines with or without direction from the Transportation Director or School Administration.
- Provide evaluations for all drivers aides and support staff under his/her supervision.
- Establish and maintain good rapport with students employees community members and vendors.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
- Other duties as required or assigned by the Transportation Director.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- College degree preferred or a combination of equivalent experience and education.
- Minimum five years experience in management position working with a large staff and large budget.
- Minimum five years experience in pupil transportation.
- Possess a working knowledge of federal and state regulations for transporting both special education and typical students.
- Experience using School Bus Routing and Planning Software (Versatrans preferred).
LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Drivers License.
- Valid Arizona CDL and School Bus Driver Certification preferred.
- Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).
SKILL/KNOWLEDGE:
- Ability to plan activities and direct staff outside of a traditional office setting.
- Proficient with transportation software (Versatrans) preferred.
- Proficient with developing forms spreadsheets and letters.
- Competency in computer applications such as Word Excel Versatrans or similar and typing.
- Ability to read and interpret general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
- Ability to write general correspondence and speak effectively with others.
- Strong leadership communication time management and problem solving skills.
- Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.
- Ability to interpret assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms.
- Ability to apply reason to research and solve moderately complex issues with little or no assistance.
ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: balancing stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking lifting fingering grasping talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.
Light Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Working Conditions:
Work is routinely performed in an indoor office environment; may require some work in the field with moderate exposure to travel.
