Lead Teacher
Burlington-Winooski Middle School Summer Program 2026
The Burlington-Winooski Middle School Summer Program is seeking experienced and energetic lead teachers to design and facilitate programs for groups of up to 20 middle schoolers. Summer programs include academics (math literacy creative writing and English Language support) arts STEAM sports and outdoor activities both on and off site. Programming runs M-F for 5 weeks from June 23rd - July 25th from 9:00am - 3:00pm at Hunt Middle School.
Daily expectations for All Staff (Lead and Support):
- Model Mentor and Monitor appropriate behavior
- Set up your designated program space every morning
- Complete and maintain accurate attendance every day
- Plan and facilitate daily activities / classes
- Engage students in hands-on activities and learning
- Ensure that your group adheres to all health guidance
- Help students transition between activities
- Use a restorative approach to behavior management
- Communicate all concerns and needs with Directors
- Clean up program supplies and space at the end of each day
- All other duties as assigned
Additional expectations for Lead Teachers:
- Plan 5 weeks of daily activities / program curriculum
- Compile and submit supply list for your program prior to program start date
- Review program expectations lessons and schedule with support staff
- Problem-solve questions and concerns that arise in your program with Directors
Please provide clear evidence of the following criteria in your application:
- High school diploma
- Teaching License
- Minimum of two years experience working with youth in an educational or recreational setting
- Availability to work all 5 program weeks
- Experience in group facilitation
- Experience implementing inclusive practices for all students
- Understanding of importance of summer learning
- For academic classes: Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License preferred
Position Dates and Hours
Program Dates: June 22 2026 - July 24 2026
Hours: Up to 37.5 hours/week 8:00 a.m. - 3:30p.m. Monday - Friday
Can be part days - 8:00am - 12:30pm or 12:00pm - 3:30pm
