Clinical Team Leader (Medical Ward)

Cromwell Hospital Kensington SW5 0TU

Permanent Full time 37.5 hours per week

Paying from 45306 up to 53602 per annum

The Clinical Team Leader has delegated responsibility for the management of the clinical areas including assessment of care needs the development implementation and evaluation of programs of care and the setting of standards on a shift basis and in the authorised absence of the Deputy Matron.


The Clinical Team Leader will support the Deputy Matron in the management of the ward conjunction with the Deputy Matron the Clinical Team Leader will be responsible for promoting an environment conductive to individuals and teams to development ensuring the delivery of high standards of patient care in line with clinical governance.


They will be easily identifiable accessible and a key figure to whom patients and their families can turn to for assistance advice and support.
To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to deliver a high standard of care to the patient undergoing medical treatment. You will be responsible for the assessment of patients care needs and for the development implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.

  • Using their knowledge and experience as a role model and to drive up the standards of clinical care.
  • Provides leadership and is highly visible and accessible to patients and staff.
  • Support with identifying deficits and implementing programmes to address the issues with the delivery of patient care.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives to drive up high quality clinical care.
  • Communicate effective information to patients/relatives/carers/ and all members of the multidisciplinary team in line with information sharing guidelines.
  • Support the audit process to improve delivery of patient care.
  • Support with monitoring standards of documentation within their areas ensuring compliance with the regulatory Codes of governing bodies.
  • Support with identifying workforce shortfalls ensuring safe staffing levels in their area.
  • Ensure professional concerns about standards of nursing care staffing levels and capability are addressed and escalated to their Deputy Matron as appropriate.
  • Support staff to ensure clinical care is provided using an up-to-date evidence-based approach.
  • Maintain a high clinical profile throughout the day ensuring available to staff patients and visitors.
  • Ensure patients are managed through agreed pathways of care and are supported towards safe and effective planned discharge.
  • Support the delivery of consistent safe service in all aspects of the patient journey and instil a culture of customer service throughout the nursing team.
  • Encourage teams and consultants to build and maintain positive working relationships ensuring individual consultant protocols are available for all nursing staff to refer to.
  • Practical experience with Datix management and roles and responsibilities in incident/complaint management including working with the Deputy Matron with RCA process.
  • Consistently demonstrate the Six Cs namely care compassion competence communication courage and commitment.
  • Willing to undertake internal development course in leadership and management.

Key Skills / Qualifications

  • Senior Staff Nurse with BSC or working towards one.
  • Teaching/assessing qualification
  • ILS/ ALS as relevant
  • Evidence of clinical experience in the relevant area and ability to function at level required of the post
  • Experience of being involved in the implementation of change.
  • Knowledge of resource management.
  • Evidence of professional leadership leading to innovation in practice.
  • Experience managing clinical audit and participating in benchmarking.
  • Participating in the development delivery monitoring and evaluating of training programmes with clinical and non-clinical staff
  • Excellent communication skills written and verbal presentation skills & report writing.
  • Negotiating and influencing skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to consider the wider picture.
  • Computer literate with good knowledge of MS word outlook Excel.
