DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
- Follows established work procedures and written maintenance instructions for diagnosing and remedying improper performance of equipment found in a power plant. Tests inspects repairs replaces overhauls and installs all types of complex circuits and equipment diagnoses trouble and makes repairs with minimum interference to systems. This often necessitates performing work on live energized equipment and conductors of any voltage in accordance with applicable safety rules and approved work procedures.
- Performs complex diagnostic testing and utilizes other test equipment analyzing and interpreting results. Diagnoses sources of trouble where one or more systems are involved to correct improper performance of equipment; repairs overhauls and adjusts as required to transformers circuit breakers potential transformers motors switchgear cables and catheads control drives and similar equipment. Must be skilled in the use of specialized electrical test equipment such as meggers ducters hi-pots oscilloscopes frequency and pulse generators recorders and various electrical metering devices to perform the required preventive maintenance troubleshooting and repairs. Performs analysis based on collected data and recommends course of action and/or isolates the malfunction; and repairs malfunctioning equipment or controls.
- Inspects troubleshoots maintains repairs upgrades obsolete instrumentation after specifying suitable replacement(s) installs adjusts and calibrates as assigned station instrumentation and control systems (mechanical electrical pneumatic hydraulic or electronic) such as but not limited to: boiler combustion control feedwater control superheat and reheat temperature control water systems chemical feed controls water and air systems pressure controls system pressure reducing and de-superheating controls level controls water treatment controls heating and ventilating controls EHC systems computer equipment CEM systems flow meters temperature pressure and level devices recorders transmitters and receivers used in instrumentation monitoring instruments portable tests and survey instruments plant laboratory instruments and environmental instruments and distributed control systems.
- Performs disassembly reassembly overhaul repair testing adjusting replacing and cleaning of all types of electrical equipment found in a generating station including overhauling electric motors alignment on electrical motors and couplings high-speed switching devices large power transformers high voltage and low voltage switchgear motors and associated equipment.
- Conducts electrical tests and makes necessary repairs to electrical and electronic circuitry such as static inverters CRTs television cameras excitation system automatic synchronizing equipment primary trip relays and uninterruptable power supplies.
- Directs instructs and trains employees in the maintenance testing calibration installation repair and proper functioning of all electrical instrumentation and control systems including advising and assisting operating personnel and technical personnel to interpret indications and intelligence provided by various instruments and to differentiate between equipment and instrument malfunction.
- Assumes responsibility and assures that a job--from diagnosis through disassembly repair reassembly retest and final cleanup--is completed in accordance with approved maintenance QA and other applicable procedures regulations and programs.
- Assists in developing evaluation and implementation of work schedules work packages material requests contract requisitions and plant procedures to determine appropriate manpower equipment and all materials are available to complete assigned work in a timely manner which can also involve interfacing and interacting with vendors.
- Under the direction of a Competent Person erects self-supporting scaffolds of any height. Performs work from self-supporting structures of any height including full boiler scaffolding. Performs work from hanging scaffolds man lifts spiders or similar support devices up to a height of 75 feet. Operates and works from aerial devices such as: bucket or platform trucks and various hydraulic telescoping man-lifts (up to 175 height rating)
- Supplies and transfers tools and equipment by handling ropes tying knots and doing simple rigging and hoisting.
- Operates auxiliary mounted equipment (except bucket truck) operates trenchers skid loaders backhoes boring machines and material handling equipment such as forklifts.
- Directs and performs work to build and repair complex splices and terminations on all types of cable and in the installation and maintenance of relay and control systems.
- Performs switching voltage checks submits clearance requests and holds clearance orders in performance of the above-mentioned work
- Performs rigging such as moving placing hanging or erecting structures transformers circuit breakers switching devices and machinery. Operates permanently mounted hoists of any kind.
- Performs paperwork and uses computer-based systems associated with job duties
- Keeps personal and shop tools and equipment in good working order and maintains good housekeeping and safety in the working areas.
- Maintains thorough knowledge and complies with appropriate safety related plans and procedures such as safety meetings Job Safety Analyses tailboards.
- Reads and interprets drawings prints diagrams etc. and makes sketches and diagrams to facilitate work. Updates revises and submits changes as required.
- Operates CEM stack elevators.
- Performs such other related duties as assigned or as necessary
MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- High school education or equivalent.
- Electrical & Instrument-Trainee must successfully pass EEI Test Tech exam or its replacement.
- Electrical & Instrument-Shift requires at a minimum one of the following:
a. Satisfactory performance and experience as a Journeyman Electrician-FS Generation
b. Successful completion of the instrument line training and development program.
c. Equivalent practical experience and training.
- Thorough knowledge of Safety Rules tools and materials used in the performance of the above duties.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret drawings specifications and instructions pertaining to equipment and to prepare legible and accurate reports
- Working knowledge of computer-based systems pertaining to the job.
- Motor vehicle operators license
- Ability to organize plan schedule and direct work and other employees including learning and implementing new work methods.
- Ability to obtain/maintain switching and holder authority.
- Satisfactory physical condition to perform manual labor work in and out of doors at times under adverse working conditions.
- Must be medically and physically capable of wearing approved respiratory equipment in accordance with governmental regulations and company respiratory programs.
- Ability to attain NERC clearance.
