The aim of Advanced training in Rehabilitation Medicine is to gain learning and experience in general and specialised terms utilising evidenced based rehabilitation medicine principles with the goal to progress through the AFRM Training program towards obtaining Fellowship.
The Advanced Trainee is to perform comprehensive rehabilitation assessments make treatment decisions perform procedures maintain adequate medical records and develop expertise in medical practice in a complex clinical environment.
The Advanced trainee will supervise general medical management of patients admitted/referred to the Department of Rehabilitation and build an integrated care plan with interdisciplinary teams and the department to achieve best patient outcome. Advanced trainees are expected to participate in consultative and outpatient services in a variety of ambulatory care settings which may include hospital facilities and private consulting rooms.
Close supervision and liaison with consultants will allow the Advanced Trainee to demonstrate their level of ability and understanding of patient care and enable individual expansion of clinical responsibility. All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
MBBS or equivalent currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia
Completion of minimum two (2) years postgraduate medical experience in the Australian Health System or equivalent with demonstrated experience and commitment in a rehabilitation setting.
Intention to attain fellowship in General Rehabilitation Medicine with the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (AFRM) a Faculty of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).
This position is subject to an appropriate supervision level which can be supported by the health agency. If the incumbents registration conditions include supervision requirements the level of supervision must be able to be supported by the health agency for this role.
